Audi sells more cars than BMW and MB combined in January 07
Audi UK Sales Race Ahead Again in January
The four rings outsells its two German prestige rivals
· Record-breaking January recorded by Audi UK with 8,553 sales posted, exceeding the combined totals of its German premium rivals (8,291 cars)
· 2006 was sixth successive record sales year for Audi UK (86,003 cars)
· Dramatic upturn partly attributable to expansion of range from 6 models in 1997 to 23 today
More evidence of the remarkable ascent of the Audi brand in the UK has been provided by its January 2007 sales figures, which for the first time have exceeded its premium German rivals’ combined sales total for the same month. This telling news follows the brand’s recent announcement of a sixth successive record sales year in 2006.
With sales of 8,553 cars in January, equating to an impressive market share of 5.2 per cent, Audi recorded a huge 32.6 per cent increase on the same period last year, and in the process not only overtook each of its two German premium sector rivals, but also surpassed their combined total sales (8,291 cars).
In 2006 Audi UK sold a record 86,003 cars in Britain - its sixth successive year of concerted growth. The ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ brand’s sales have more than doubled since 1999 when 40,615 cars found homes in the UK.
This migration to the rapidly evolving Audi has been effected largely through a rapid range expansion from just 6 model lines ten years ago to 23 models today.
“We are clearly seeing exceptional demand for Audi, and this is creating by far the biggest order bank we have ever seen in the UK,” commented Head of Audi Operations, Gary Savage. “Our dramatic sales totals actually disguise the fact that at least four of our ranges are production limited and had we been able to make more cars, we could have sold even more in January as well as last year as a whole,” he concluded.
Director of Audi UK Jeremy Hicks emphasised that the sales records are real and not being achieved by resorting to ‘manipulation’: “We are attracting a steeply rising number of clients to Audi but we are not achieving this by ‘overheating’ any individual model segment. Our growth is coming principally from the expansion of our range which is set to increase further this year with the arrival of the new R8 sports car and the A5 Coupe,” he said.

So? Who wants car like that? My neighbour drive one, and his neighbour, and his, and his, and his, but I'm only one with Scoob around here. And they all look at my car when I look at his wifes.

Proof indeed that the Great British idiot is more concerned with perception than reality, and that marketing spin works

"To date, NASA has filed 6,509 patents
In developing the A6, Audi filed 9,621"
Unfortunately, Audi spent so long filing the patents, no one actually drove the car to see how dull it actually was

I preffered the e-class though, more comfortable

Americans do however cause they cant make their own good cars, and its expensive for the likes of VAG to sell cars in the states unless its been built there.

Just ordered my A4 company car.
In this car i want reliability/comfort/easy to drive and all that.
My current X Type Jag is bloody good at 'easy driving'
Before you condemn me I have a 407 bhp Scooby road/racer and a road/race early 911.
Could not use either of those as a daily driver, so the A4 will be just right, Bose sound system with Hendrix playing or Eric Roach.
Bliss.

As an aside Audi must be doing a lot right as the dealers near me are expanding into new show rooms, with Volkswagen keeping the old garages for themselves.
So there must be good volume and profit in these cars.

Why knock someone for bringing up a post about Audi's, Merc's and Bummers.
I thought these threads were for "Other Marques"
But I'm not suprised Audi is now selling more than Mercedes and BMW.
For too long they've thought and expected to keep customers happy by continuing to sell boring poor quality cars.
The poor build quality of both Mercedes and BMW has been well documented in the Motoring Press, especially from the factories outside Germany.
Whereas Audi and Lexus have continued to improve quality and their model line ups, and now stolen their sales.

Above is so true.
The BM 3 Touring I test drove was very 'average' hard plastic squeeks and rattles.
The A4 was solid as a rock.
Mind you, my X type is pretty good too except for the front suspension sounding somewhat loose..

So why do you drive an old Mercedes? I know there are questions as to whether or not you actually own the Merc or if it is in fact, as we all suspect, one of your parents vehicles lol.
AudiLover posts = boring, dull, uninteresting, monotonous, dreary, humdrum, uninspiring, tiresome and above all else lacking in any kind of prior thought as to ones own point of view other than doing a quick cut'n'paste from the web Problem is we can't help but respond to them lol.

Here goes another, lets pick on AL again.
Why bother people.
Is it because Audi build a better car than Subaru and you wont except it?

Yeah great. It is becoming a mass market brand, what's so good about that? More worryingly these cars are being purchased by people who wouldn't know what a good handling car was.
Why are you so happy Audi has shifted a load of base level FWD cars to company reps?
PS: If Audi floats your boat, why do you drive a Volvo and your dad's E class?

I think people buy an AUDI for reasons nothing to do with Handling.
The cars stand for other reasons, status/quality/reliability/resale value/pleasure to own.
I've just ordered one UNDRIVEN. I had one 5 years ago, it worked well, met the above spec, AND imho handled well as a nice road car for home/work/hols.
I do know about handling in cars, I race my Sti V3 on track for 5 years now (not track days) and before that 14 years road/race with a 911 (see opposite).
The AUDI is safe/secure and trouble free, handling was not top of the spec list.
Sounds good in my book.
Graham.

There are times when "Ferrari floats my boat"
Problem is the one i like is out of my budget.
Maybe AL is saving his money by using a std car to run about in instead of waisting money on chaving a scoob.
When he has the money he needs he'll get it.
Why put someone down for the car they drive, clueless.

Toyota is the about to become the biggest car maker in the world if the purchase of shares in Subaru is approved by the Japanese government.
Audi used to be a niche prestige badge and brand but just like most makers "mass production" is now the money maker. They have to be careful, VW are having a major rethink on it's production and model in up. Sister Audi may be next??? Who knows
