Cool Audi 1.9 or 530d

Hi all,

Need a little help, I currently have a TT 225! love it. But I need to change to something a little bigger.

I looking for a diesel car because of distance to work and I have been told diesels are better for that. So I have two chooses,

BMW 530d - M-tec kit or a Audi A4 Quattro kit?, both are great looking cars!

Anyone with any advice or help?

Thanks
Niall

I would go with the BMW, since it's bigger, has a better engine and drives better. The A4 is smaller and the 1.9 engine is getting a little long in the tooth and is not that powerful.

Depends if you're going for a complete change-over from sporty driving, in favour of economy... if you are, then the A4 (no point bothering with the quattro) will be the ticket, as it'll be better on the juice. If however, you still want a bit of oomph in your daily drive, then the Beemer is by far the better option.

Beemer will be considerably more spacious inside, handle better and is still rated as one of the best "all-round" cars out there...

It looks like I'll be booking a test drive on the Beemer! Its just got more toys then the Audi :-)

Sat Nav, Leather, park senors :-)

The only down side is I'm in Ireland so the Road tax is a nightmare! 1200 a year????

The car states 22,000mile on the clock! its a 02! think an AA report would be in order! or does anyone know a way of telling if the miles is true??? other then look at the engine :-)

A6 but a 3.0TDi would be a better comparison to the 5-series

depends what your after, owning a TT you obviously know what Audi are lkike for parts etc, from personal experience BMW's are amazing cars but let down but crap dealers and silly parts prices.

get yourself a Euro Car Parts catalogue and take both for a test drive, all thats left is which one pushes the right buttons for you!

A4 3.0 TDi has almost identical performance to 530d - a 1.9 TDi should be compared to a 520d.

Driving 530d's at work every day I am a bit biased - I love them ! I would stress I have no idea about the Audi but can vouch for the Beemers ..... nice and quick. Not particularly economical though it has to be said, but better than any petrol equivalent.

Keep away from the manual BMW as the auto is more suited to the engine. I had a 530d sport manual which I sold after only a few months.

Get some good test drives in.

Totally agree - auto diesel BMW is far better than manual ... it works really well with the engine.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the advice, I test drove both cars over the weekend and total agree the Beemer was far better!

But alias , The Irish govorment have had the last laf and killed off anything worth while! the beemer is a 3lit engine so its nearly 1200 euro a year tax plus their bring in a emissions tax for any car 2lit up!!

Bring back hanging :-)
