Default New corsa vxr

Just been showing a article its out very shortly, 1.6 petrol turbocharged engine, 189 bhp, and still returns 44 mpg according to Vauxhall. Top speed is 140 mph and 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, anyone thinking of getting one ?

I have seen an interior shot and it looks very good for such a cheap car.

Go sit in a corsa/astra, then go sit in a 1 series

Then come back and edit your post.

My mate is a professional driver trainer - skid cars/fast road work/fleet training, etc.

Uses Corsas and Astras - does tens of thoursands of miles a year. Says the interiors look good on initial impression, but the quality is still, comparative to the Germans, poor. Build, fit and materials all falling behind Merc, Audi & BMW.

And he is well qualified to comment.

Unlike you, who's experience is, well, dubious at best.

Why compare old vauxhalls to the relatively new 1 series. I made my comparison based on that of the stndard new corsa to that of a e90 3 series.

The interior is nearly as good as the BMW's, and seeing as the corsa is so new who know how well it will hold up. The doors on the corsa sure felt rather solid though.

Just in defense of Astras (!), our Design is actually a lot more solid than the Golf mk4 we had.
It still doesn't look great and is a bit fiddly (the Golf was a masterpiece of a dash!) but very well screwed together and with the half leather seats and trim, it looks high(ish) rent.

The Golf had to go back twice for squeaks and rattles, the Astra is rattle free and the seats about twice as comfortable (the Konigs in the Golf looked great but killed your back).

As for the Corsa - It's looking a lot better than it used to.
I'm no Vauxhall fan but they do seem to be trying an awful lot harder these days and a lot are built in Germany anyway (mine was)!

Surely the performance cant be that bad - 189bhp is not to be sniffed at and remember this, a nice turbo is crying for a remap - expect to see 240bhp when your modding companies start mapping it, which will make it fly

Assume the torque output is decent being a turbo?

Remember the Corolla with 189bhp (possibly still in production)?
Terrible performance for such power!

i think its quite a cool little car, looks quite funky i guess and thats a lot of power for a lil car. the thing is tho if u remap it (which i would if i bought one) would u keep the power down coz look at the astra!!!

My dad is thinkin of gettin one tho, mental!!!

44mpg and 189bhp?

I suppose the manufacturers are always optimistic about the economy, so might as well just take the pi$$

Eveytime i see another article on that car the 0-60 stats change
they were 6.0 dead..then 6.5. the link on this thread states a 60 coming up in 6.8. by the time top gear have a go on the test track it will be doing 60 in 14 seconds.

I was just going to say that! You cant have economy and horsepower; you get more horsepower by burning more fuel ffs! Nearly 200BHP means about 20mpg. 44mpg equates to about 60BHP.....

Depends on how you drive surely. My Clio will do 40mpg on a nice motorway journey at a steady 80mph....A day at oulton park used a full tank and came out as an average of 16mpg....

Not necessarily, It only peaks at x bhp at one point in the rev range, plus the fact your engine can be revving at anywhere between idle and full pelt means the fuel economy is quite possible... Who's to say the turbo doesnt come in quite high in the rev range? If so when its not on boost you'll return decent economy
