It is indeed the 20VT 180bhp engine in a '54 plate car...........................as for being as quick as a 340bhp Impreza,i am sure you already know the answer, however JBS up north run one with about 400bhp,so the can (as with everything) be tuned to produce the figures,it's just down to cost
I had a 260 bhp classic and a standard 210 cupra r. even those cars..the gap between the 2 power wise was seriously noticable..plus the cupra span like a bull terrier on a freshly waxed floor. so a 180 skud and a 300 plus bhp impreza..as above..no contest.
nice cars though for the money.

Just got a 55 vrs - 2.0t. I fancied the extra space over the golf, but I don't object to paying 5 grand less for it either.
Nippy rather than fast I'd say. Nice engine though, very tractable and it feels nice and usable. Much softer than the VW or Audi models, which suits me.

I used to have the Octavia VRS and on the motorway it will keep up with a Scooby, i once saw 160 on the speedo (private road of couse). No match for my Scooby on acceleration or grip etc but it was a nice motor
I've a tweaked Octavia vRS - 231bhp/251lbf. Nice car - won't really worry an STI or modded WRX, but once on the move it'll give a standard WRX a fright

As another poster said, the 1.8T is a very tweakable engine - there are quite a few Octavias running with 350 - 400 bhp. Not all vRS's - a lot are 4x4 models as the basic engine is the same as in the vRS.
A 400 bhp 4x4 would be a bit less of a handful than a 400 bhp vRS

HOLY SHAMOLEY. i bet that thing wheelspins like a bugger!! just think ten years ago though if someone would have said they had a 337 bhp skoda you would have beaten them around the head with a rubber kosh and had them commited.
i bet the look on some peoples faces as you take off is a side splitter

Another one now
And my standard vRS Furby doesn't get near my almost
standard UK Turbo... provided it's in the right gear. Though in 5th in the Scooby at 70mph, and 6th at the same speed in the Furby, the Furby would pull away... but if the Scooby was in 4th or even 3rd, bye bye...
Still, the vRS has a good kick-in-the-back oomph off the turbo, and despite being nose heavy, it's amusing to drive. Certainly nicer to drive down motorways in!

Mate has one that was 200bhp on the dyno, we tested my TSL333 in 5th gear at 55ish.
He hammered the **** of it, i didnt change down and i pulled about 5-6 car lengths by just over a ton, make of that what you will....

Steve
I wouldnt worry about it matey bob, you cant polish a turd as we all know.
Best thing he can do is invest in a tin of petrol and some matches and burn the fookin thing, wait for the insurance to come through and buy himself a proper fookin car for once.

im on my third week of being a skoda octavia vrs owner after selling my wrx running an ra engine and around 300bhp, at the min the skoda is standard but i still love it!
its so smooth and quiet compared to my old scoob you dont realise how fast you are going although not as quick as my scoob but it keeps me happy.
ive seen a few people saying they wont keep up with a scooby, they wont but IMO my VRS is better than the wrx ive just sold
but i got rid of the scooby for practicality reasons and better mpg so it depends what your looking for in a car.

Pretty clearly, if you didn't understand the significance of the smilies...
