Default How many car have you owned legitimate private use.?

Thought I would share a list of cars that I have owned, ALL for private use, all been fun in there own right. Some better than others, Lost fortunes on some and broke even on a few. Duno where to go next though if the current RX7 sells ?

I am aged 36 and might be running out of cars to try now. Without going into exotica of new M3's RS4's etc. However I fear cars like these might be like my experience of the 911 C4 I had which was overated.

49. Vauxhall Vectra
48. Mazda RX7
47. Another BMW5 series but a 528I this time with all the toys and M5 looks 168K miles though. Sweet but a bit of a barge
46. Another BMW 328I - Blue with lots of miles (did I tell you how great I thought these were)
45. Toyota MR2 Normally Aspirated slow version (Great fun but slow, superb value for money and a tidy example)
44. Vauxhall VX220 Turbo (As much fun as the MX5 turbo but the MX5 was half the price and easy to work on.
43. Subaru Impreza UK MY98 (2.5 STi Block, 20G turbo) - Yeehhaaa!
42. BMW M3 Evolution Estorial Blue (Sweeeet, but not that quick)
41. Subaru Impreza UK MY99 (the one bought local)
40. Mondeo ST220 (thirsty and slow but built really well)
39. Subaru Impreza UK Wagon MY00
38. Subaru Impreza UK Wagon MY99 Tek3
37. Mazda MX-5 Turbo (most fun on wheels I have owned yet)
36. BMW 330
35. Mondeo ST200
34. Subaru Impreza WRX MY94 (nice map from Scott.t)
33. Subaru Impreza UK MY99 (TD05 Conversion)
32. Subaru Impreza STi 7 JDM (dog of an example)
31. Mazda Mx5 - Standard (girls car)
30. MkIV Golf GTI - Nice but boring much preferred the MK1 out the range.
29. Mk3 Golf GTI - Stop Gap
28. BMW M3 Evo Green (Vanos unit failed)
27. Toyota GT4 Carlos Sainz (boost controller addes with white comp's...Sweet)
26. Toyota MR2 Mk1. (Fantastic balanced car)
25. BMW 328i (very nice car and underestimated)
24. Volvo T4 V40 (Sweet for any old mans car, expecially after I fitted the dawes)
23. Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (overated car)
22. Mitsubishi GTO (Too large, but flew with the mods I done 180mph top speed)
21. Sierra Cosworth 2WD White (350bhp greens and 2nd/3rd wheel spin in the dry)
20. BMW 523I, silver standard. (got me to le-man and back and kept up with M3's and a porker, and a scoob - Just)
19. Mitsubishi EVO 5 (best handling road car ever, far too fecking hard)
18. Sierra Cosworth 2WD White (modded of course)
17. BMW 325I E36 (boring and slow compared to the 325 E30)
16. Sierra Cosworth 2WD Blue (sweet example)
15. BMW 325i E30 (rocket for what is was and bullet proof)
14. Escort Mk5 RS2000 (boring and noisey)
13. VW Golf Mk1 GTi (Nice car and very quick off the lights)
12. Vauxhall SRI 130 (dog)
11. Mk1 GTI - The definitive Hot Hatch and would have another one anyday.
10. Escort XR3I Cab (fun whilst it lasted)
9. Mitsubishi Starion Turbo (Apart from splitting block and the heads it was fun all the time it was pulling 1.5bar on a dawes)
8. Escort RS1600I (Would love another one for weekends, Scott.T's old one )
7. Escort XR3I White (Superb handling)
6. Escort XR3 Silver (slow and boring)
5. Fiat Uno Turbo (160bhp in a car that weighs nothing in front wheel drive = Lots of fun)
4. Vauxhall Cavalier (modified), lots of money for little gain in performance
3. Talbot Sunbeam TI (TI engine on standard 1.3g/box = 4 broken gearboxes in 3 months)
2. Capri 2.0S X 2 one silver one black (Great in there day, and first taste of RWD fun, crashed it outside ESK)
1. FIAT 3P Berlinetta (fastest car on the road at the time when you were 17 years old, plenty of rust but easily filled with crisp packets and lumps of wood

Nice selection - Looks like you went of the rails a few times, but always wanted at the time a RGT5 and put 205 1.9GTI. I regret not trying these. Was put off the renault 5 as non of the ones I new lasted more than a week before they broke big time. But been in a 1.6Pug GTI and very impressed. A 1.9GTI pug would make a great track car now.

The Scoobs, and Cossies will always be the most memorable for me our of my list of cars. With a few very pleasant suprises from cars that were brought as stop gaps at the time.

Not many, I'm only 19

4. Merc C180k Sport edition saloon (surprisingly fun to drive and throw about with the AMG designed wheel/suspension setup with 8.5J rears, can be nasty in the wet but if you use it to your advantage RWD is as fun as it gets but inevitably... a slow car - restricted on choice of engine size because of insurance reasons)
3. Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTi SRi 150PS (quick car for an oil burner but struggled putting the power down with 18" noddy wheels and FWD, shoddily built)
2. BMW E46 318i SE coupe (2.0 valvetronic engine was quite pokey for what it was but the car was unresponsive as far as handling was concerned - probably because it was an SE not a sport)
1. Mk6 Escort Si 1.8 - (handled great when modded, remap and decat brought it to life, Focus ST stoppers were a good mod but car lacked ABS)

2001

29.Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 (Group N Chip and Exhaust(Very fast, bought because my girlfriend at the time was learning to drive,i went off to find something suitable for her,and came home with this...........she was a little p***ed off...........we later got married ).

30.BMW 535I Sport (i sold my first house and made a decent profit............this was my treat!!

Along the way there have been several other cars that were runabouts for either me or the wife, but they have been so irrelevent and so numerous i cannot remember all of them but would expect the total for the above years to be around 45 cars..............................................

..............................................and that brings me onto 2007.......................................where will it end??????

25 years old, passed the test at 17, and bought first car at 21....

1; Impreza 1.8GL. Quite a nice car, but underpowered.
2; Range Rover 3.5V8 on LPG - which I bought at the wrong time, spent a lot on mending, and sold about 3 months later .
3; Subaru Justy.
-nothing for a few months-
4; Nissan Almera GTi. Loved that one.
5; Present car; Defender 110 200Tdi. Just thinking about intercooler mods now...

Whilst I thought I was a bit extreme in the amount I change. It does look like fellow petrol heads do get the itch to change any bit as much as me. There have been some crackers along the way, the present one not being excluded.

But I never regret moving on and trying something new. With all this talk of other cars on this forum it is nice to see there is a lot of personal experience from allot of the cars discussed.

Still yet to get a JDM STII8/9 with a tek 3 out my system though, which I think would tick most of the boxes for me now.

Well due to the fact that i'm only 23, only finished uni last year where i couldnt have a car & only been in my 1st proper job since Nov, here's my list:

Currently

95uk Turbo Saloon - owned for 4 1/2 years !!! Still love but now up for sale, due to work travelling

97 Pug 306TD - New work horse cos doing 130 miles/day - cheap & easy, but to slow

90 Pug 205 Gti 1.6 - Track/Road prepared, used in gap year, Fast road go-kart, wicked car and sold it for £300 profit

90 Pug 205 GRD 1.8D - 2nd car at 18, 5 door, adapted the gti kit, lowered 80mm all round on 1.6 alloys, slow but with some good front tyres, really handled.

90 Vauxhall Astramax van (like escort van) 1.7D 1st car, £200, bright yellow with a fully functioning RAC orange light on roof, 90% body filler, deep dish 16 inch alloys off god knows (£20 scrappy), stupidly loud stereo, all the back panelled out and covered in green tartan fabric with some left over green carpet from the dining room on the floor & to top it off a matress & sleeping bag !!! (LETS JUST SAY MAX POWER DAYS COMPLETED - BUT FUN WAS HAD !!!)

So all in all a bit lame, but then once the impreza goes, i stop travelling 130 miles/day & finally earn some bucks, hopefully things will progress nicely

TOP THREAD THOUGH !!!
