A couple of laps in my M5
Having been in 4wd cars for a good few years...Scooby then RS6...the M5 was a plunge back in at the deep end with RWD and 400HP to play with.
I decided Bedford would be a good place to have a play.
Great track, the car went very well apart from having to brake very early as they simply aren't up to the job (contemplating AP 6 pots currently) and I had some fun laps in the wet in the morning practising a bit of rear wheel steer
Here are a few laps in the dry later, catching an Elise who then spins at the end of the straight.
Having tracked the Scooby extensively this was my first stint on track for a couple of years, and my resolution for the new year is to throw myself back into it as I'd forgotten just how much fun it was, as well as meeting some great people and getting passenger laps in a wide range of cars.
Thanks also to Austen for organising it.

Hi Mark, yeah the H&S has really done the business, very pleased.
How you getting on with the Evo after all the Scoobs? Considering changing cars a few times early in 07 to scratch a few itches, Evo (probably VI Makinen or RS) being one of them.

Yep, im enjoying it! I really do like the look of the 6, probably more than the 8but the size of the fuel tank put me off a bit. Makinens are the business - I would go for one if I were you, plus if you buy well, you wont lose very much. The price of a 6 doesnt seem to dip much now.
Evo is very different to the scoob handling wise - putting faith in the AYC is a bit alien to me at the moment!
I really wanted a JDM Twin Scroll STi but I couldnt find a straight one! Probably will go back to the S2000 next, or a JDM Sti.
Its good fun to chop and change though, eh

Have you had on track yet? Definitely the best place to learn the AYC traits!
Yeah I've definitely got a few cars I want to get out of my system and now I own the M5 outright I figure that gives me about 15k budget to play with.
I'm thinking Porsche 968 CS, Elise, ITR (both flavours), E30 M3, Evo 6 and poss an Integrale if I can find, as you say, a straight one.

Nice!
Always liked the E39 M5, just never found the right reason to have a large saloon. Am I right in thinking that they need to cut the OEM exhaust to fit a custom backbox because there is no joint in the OEM system?
Well worth doing either way though as it really lets the big V8 sound like God intended!

its electronic interference apparently, its common when using in-car camcorders although I've never experienced it until now.
I assure you its not there 'in real life'
CSL - yep they cut it and then clamp the new one, sounds terrible but is actually fine...unless you intend to go back to an OEM box. Mine went straight in the bin! Can't believe how much they weighed either, it was a struggle to life them, I reckon I've knocked 25-30kg off the car!

Edcase - Have you read Ian Banks "search for the perfect dram" yet?
Basically does a whisky tour of Scotland mostly in his M5.
He's a proper car enthusiast.
You'd love it!

Unfortunately I'm stuck in tonight as the missus is poorly, cooked up a nice dinner and just opened my xmas present, a bottle of 15yr old Balvenie. And mighty fine it is too!
Happy new year to you all
