Question What to Buy?

Having sold the MY00 a few months ago and driving an old bucket, it is time i went and bought a replacement. I have about £13000 to spend and something that is worthy of replacing the MY00. My shortlist consists of:

2003 UK STI
Cupra R
WRX PPP

I only drive around 4000 miles a year, as I have to use Public transport everyday to get to work.

The only issue is with a baby on the way, it has to be something that will feel comfortable to drive and for the passengers, especially the small one.

Your suggestions are welcome.

No evo's, as much as they are good cars.

£13000 will easy get you decent examples of the above. Is it purely performance you are after?

Performance - yes and comfort. I remember driving a STI a while back and noticed that the suspension was very hard, so although my first choice it may have to take a back seat.

for 13K you cant go far wrong with a cupra R.

Theres a couple of good ones on pistonheads.

maybe this one?

Seat : Leon Cupra R (225)

good luck with your decision.

Personally, I wouldn't want my new baby being driven in something with rock hard suspension, but then that's just me.

What about 330cd/i, or is that not really what you're after mate?

Sub97, I do agree with you and I have been looking at the 3 series bmw's, although i prefer the look of the coupe, this might be impracticle with a new baby. I think it might be the WRX to go for.

Got to disagree about this and pointing you towards a BMW for softer suspension.

I had a look at a 330D (albeit the Sport),and i found the ride very hard, and i have owned a lot of different "performance" cars, with some cars running coilovers aswell. However, like i said,it was a Sport and it did have the Runflats on it,but be a bit wary if you are after a cosseting ride.

IMO,if you want a balance between performance, reasonable economy and comfort you would not go far wrong with the Cupra R.I had one for a while this summer and with a couple a relatively cheap tweaks,it was a pretty fantastic "all round" car.Mine was remapped(running approx 275bhp-£400),lowered on Eibach Springs(major handling improvement, and also improved the ride quality over standard),and 19" Super Leggara's(lighter than the standard 18's).It would do 34mpg without too much restraint, but would also entertain when my kid's were not in the car................highly recommended

I was in same dilemma a few years back. While I loed thw STI the ride was too hard. Went for the WRX with PPP. Kids love it and never moaned/ been sick in it nor has the wife. I can fit 3 kids and their belongings in without a problem.

Sounds good mate.

Is it your first? Congratulations by the way!

My wife is expecting our first on the 1st Feb next year - not long now. I've never been that interested in kids before, but it's amazing how things change when it's yours

TBH I would have thought the Cupra would be out because of the size of the boot. It's probably fine for you and your other half, but not sure if a pram would fit in it. I've no idea of the size of the boot on the STi, but it's worth considering.

There's so much paraphenalia(sp) with babies that you'll struggle with boot space if you're going away for a few days. We used to fill a Sierra Estate when visiting the in-laws for a few days with our first boy.

What about a Legacy 3.0R? Bit more comfort and space, without losing too much pace.....
