Bored of stupid running costs - thiking of an FTO
I think i have more or less come to the end of my subaru agreement for a while due to needing houses etc and i need a change.
I'm looking for something around 4k to keep costs down but am thinking of a Mitsubishi FTO GPX (2.0V6)
I know these arent as quick etc etc but i'm just after something jap, that looks nice and isnt a complete pig to drive.
Has anyone had any experience with these?
Thanks

FTO's aren't much (if any better) I did my research on these when deciding my next car (then I got my Impreza).
Very rare to find a proper manual, Mitsubishi rip off servicing costs if you can find a dealer to help, parts aren't cheap as they all have to come from Japan (all Non UK cars)
The only semi good engine, the 2ltr V6 is pretty naff compared to its closest rivals, under powered and quite thirsty for what it is.
I just wouldn't bother, a Celica or MR2 would be more a reasonable choice in my opinion.

i average 30 mpg from my PROPER manual.
All parts from Japan, not quite! The FTO shares many parts with other mitsubishi's. Halfords do most the servicing parts - filters etc. So no need to go to Japan for a filter. Other parts are available easily enough.
As for dealers doing the servicing - well the hourly rate is the same as Subaru, but surely if you are looking at a 10 year old car a main dealer isn't going to be the first port of call.
There are a few specialist dotted about that have good reputations so any issues can be dealt with easily.
All that said ... most are 95/96/97 cars so getting old (still looking good though) so running costs are not exactly cheap. You can pick up a decent example for decent money but wouldn't have thought it was much cheaper to maintain than standard prez.
Incidently I have a celica in the garage too - the FTO is much better to drive, handles better, quicker, gets the power down a lot better - but the celica costs a fraction to look after (nothing goes wrong!! touches wood!!)

I think the insurance is a winner. I can get insured on one for about £450 in comparison with £1100.
The extra MPG from mry wrx will be a bonus too in monetary terms for the time being.
