MOT failed :(
As you guys may or may not know my terzo has been off the road for a few months now and i bought myself a lil 1.5 civic on a N plate to burn around in, took it for an MOT yesterday and failed on 2major things.
1 emmissions were 8.7% above limit of 0.3%
2 the n/s/f brake stays on and doesnt release.
my question is how the hell have the emmissions got so high and how to get it sorted, my mate who done the MOT said it was rather late to plug it in the diagnostics machine so he couldnt tell me. As the for the brakes im sure its the top pin on the caliper not releasing the carrier when your foot is taken off the pedal.
any feedback will be nice

Injector cleaner in the next tank of petrol and a good blast at high revs beforehand (with the engine nice and warm when you get to the MOT shop) and that should fix that. But check plus etc as well!
As for the brakes - you'll just have to jack it up, get the wheel off and take a look. If it's just a pin not releasing then it's easy to fix ....

Have you got the emmissions print out? If the lambda figure is not 1.00 then you need a new one.
Most testers know the cat has to be hot before the test (assume your mate did this). If he did a reading that high would mean a fubar cat (you need a new one).
What it running like otherwise? Using oil / poor mpg? Has it had a new air filter and plugs when it should?

Just saying the CO isn't enough, need oxygen, HC and lambda and during which stage (natural idle or fast idle? ). As that will narrow down the long long list of causes
Brakes not releasing could be a pinched or internally collapsed rubber hose (lets pressure through, but won't drain back on release). Something to consider once you've checked the basics (sliders, pins, guides, pistons etc)

thanks fgor the replys guys,
the car idles at 750 which is where it should idle, still gives 40+mpg, no petrol smelling no oil loss or water, oil and plugs need chaging soonish, plugs were done 10k ago and oil was done 4k ago air filter 4k ago.
i thought the discs might of been warped because the pedal goes down a bit furthur than i think it should, brake fluid seems fine though hot or cold

Not idle speed but which test? Ther eare two emissions tests done.
One at idle and one "fast idle" or any rate, a higher speed.
Also, to try to figure out what area to start looking at you'd need to know what the other numbers were on the emissions report.
