Lotus Esprit V8
Lotus Esprit V8, experiences please?
Have always been a big admirer and am really tempted to take the plunge now that the V8 models are within my budget.
Could ask in a Lotus forum but really want unbiased views.
Thanks.

I always have fancied one - since I saw the orginal in "The Spy Who Loved Me"!!!
(I think Simon De Bank used to have one - do a search on here)
What put me off was the unreliablity and chocolate gearboxes.....

Would LOVE one, but always been put off by reliablility issues.
When I looked to buy about a year ago the specialists were very helpful, saying they could provide a good warranty that covered the gearbox etc but wasn't prepared to take the plunge.
I am looking for something to replace my 996 Turbo, simply because i hardly use it anymore and its now a very expensive weekend toy. But want something "special" and interesting for around £20k ish and the V8's can be had for that.
And if it was off the road for a bit its not that much of a concern as its not used that much, as long as its all covered under a good warranty!

Reliability and resale values would be my concern, never owned one so cant be constructive, sorry.
Tiff tried to mod one on TV 5th gear/Top gear and the gearboxes lunched themselves all the time so thats an area to check well if a potential purchase in on the horizon.

In response to post above I recall Simon DeBanke also having an Esprit.
Remember what LOTUS stands for - Lot Of Trouble Usually Serious!
My brother-in-law bought one (against my recommendation by the way) and he spent £10K in less than a month as things kept going wrong (and were broken when he bought it but he didn't realise).
