Supposed to be weak cars from a reliable mechanic I know. But have always liked them myself. I knew someone who went from a 400bhpATF 300ZX to a 280bhp ATW RX7 and he believed the RX7 would destroy the 300ZX. And RX7 altogether more nimble and fun to drive.
Buy hey don't listen to me as I have just brought a 300BHP ATW RX7 and totally biased as its the best and fastest fun I have hand on wheels in a while.
Good looking cars though even by todays standards. I am sure if you look after it, it would look after you, as with most performance cars.

Its not mine, its a customers car he just wanted to get my thoughts on it.
Just out of interest Rob. your mechanic reckons that 300ZX are weak, and you have just bought a modded Rex? .What does he think of that for reliability?

They are getting old now and parts are expensive.
You don't want to know how much new suspension arms and rubbers cost for these. Put it this way, the quoted cost to sort one car with tired suspension and drivetrain linkages front and rear just to get it through an MOT amounted to over several grand (and that was not including the shocks).
And the engine is a bitch to work on.
Otherwise nice car, bit souless to drive. But then it is a typical Jap car, so nothing new there.

Two lads at work have these, one short wheel base, one long wheel base, The long base has lunched both it's turbos resulting in an expensive engine rebuild, the front suspension (cusco shocks) is a nightmare for him as the struts are wobbling round in the turrets with no one able to see how we can tighten them up. The short wheel base one has had a lot of mods including a new set of intercoolers after he turned the boost up and blew the standard one apart.
Both seem to be stupidly fast both have cost their owners thousands to maintain but then again for the performance they didn't cost too much to buy in the first place.
