Honda Prelude 2.2 Vtec - any one drove one
The newer shaped one, and not the horrible tiptronic.
They seem to be dropping in price slightly now, and if i have to go down from a Subaru one of these may be on my list.
Are they any good? how do they handle?
No doubt been asked before so appologies upfront.
Cheers

Are you after info about the 5th generation? If so , I can't help. I know a whole load of people that could though:
Honda Revolutions - The UK Honda Drivers Club
I have a 4th generation, happy to answer any Qs about that.

Had the older model, which is similar. 183 bhp and 1280kg without 4wd transmission losses = 0-60 in 6.8 sec. Very nice handling for a fwd due to it's 4 wheel steer (check it works as its very expensive to fix !). ABS sensors prone to fail too. Mechanically though, very "Honda".
Newer "boxy" models had a bit more power (I think 197bhp), even better handing .

Had a 5th gen 2.2VTi for four years befor getting shot of it in '03.
Handling was understeer central if pushed too hard. If you went in slower to the corners it would come out a lot neater though. Cannot say that i noticed that the 4WS system made the rear throttle steerable or the car feel like a RWD like some but it handled fine for me.
Economy wise i got 30-33mpg if it wasn't permanently stuck in the VTEC zone.
Watch out if you get an early one though as they have 6k service intervals which was why i ended up getting shot of mine as i was doing 18k a year. I believe nothing was changed on the later ones (99 on?) and they upped the service intervals to 9k. Consequntly an extremely careful check of the service history is a must.
Another bizarre thing to check is that the alloys are on the correct way. I cannot believe the number i see that have them on the wrong way round. Not sure if its an issue with the "motegi" styled alloys but it is with the stock ones.
Great fun car and a pretty scare sight with a bit of sophistication (more than an ITR) if you aren't in the mood to be bouncing off the rev limiter.
However if it was me i'd look at an ATR. Better handling but the same H22A series engine which was the last of the proper screaming VTECs before Honda started trying to flatten the torque curve.
You want more? PM me.

Hmm, Paul - 3yrs of prelude ownership and a few bogies there....
- I used to get 24-25mpg (most of my driving was the city of london)
- 4WS is a god send for 3 point turns, reverse parking and high speed bends on the motorway - it will however catch you out on track.
- the 99 onwards had some changes done to them, the cams are different, the air intake is different, the compression is different - some of the bits are shared with the ATR - hence the 200ps power mark.
- yes, it does understeer, however the car is extremely stable, very predictive, gorgeous handling and good enough for 148mph which is what mine did on a private track on my GPS.
extremely reliable, great engine - good power delivery and enough torque unlike the "R" versions from honda that are designed for higher power output at the expense of torque.

As Imi and everyone else mentioned, great cars.
I own this one:
HondaRevolutions.com :: Member Setups.
Paid the high end of 4th Gen prices, but I like mine ( UK car, dual air-bags, leather etc).
MPG is 33-34mpg on a run (75mph, crusie control).
Handles very good, looks good, well spec'ed.
If you have 3-4k, get a 5th Gen Type s.
