Default BMW 335d. They move dont they!

Wow, really really fast! Theres me pulling onto a dual carriageway in the sti (ppp of course) nailing it because someone is a little close behind me. To my horror 10-15 secs later at full chat (ahem), the dull grey estate uber wagen is still in touch. For fear of it being an unmarked member of the road enforcment crew i slowed. He went by... 335d if you dont mind no horrible black smoke or anything, probably pushing 40mpg or a figure of similar unimaginable efficiency. Could this be the best car in the world....?

335ix although they don't sell them in the UK for some reason. A candidate for my next car when they depreciate enough.

Im sure if it was from a standing start, with a perfectly flat road side by side then the winner would be me (if it actualy means anthing). But that is not reality and with a crushing
400 Ibs tourque nuff said.

Think I read somewhere the 335D is as quick as a M3 and lots more torque. When they are 1/2 years old. It is probably a car I would get and be my first deisal as well. Would love to go and test drive one.

not been up against a 335D but a new 530d - it was marginally slower than the scoob from a motorway speed start and a little further on.....

Expected to have the proverbial handed to me but I must have been lucky....

Nice little motors them...

Sadly I drive a lowly FWD. I still manage to get the better of the BMW 330d and a PPP STI though

As proved in Evo magazine. Evo's and Impreza's are no longer what you would call `Faster` than most cars.
Even a Vauxpoo Vectra VXR can keep up with the 06 STI.

Only when you get to the limits, do the 4WD cars have any chance of making a gap.

True, trying to an old style 330D manual is difficult enough.

What’s tourque?

For the record the units are Nm or lbft.....And its torque, as in a force multiplied by a distance.

Sorry but it offends the engineer in me. Here ‘endith’ the lesson.

I was extremently offended by the switching between metric and imperial units, and I'm not even an engineer.

I drive a new 530d auto at work ..... they are quick for what they are !

I will probably look at a 335d in a couple of years when they have depreciated somewhat. I never thought I would be saying that I would consider a diesel even 5 years ago !!!

They are smooth, comfortable and very well suited to the auto box ......

Yup 3 litres & twin turbo.

Boss had a chipped one earlier this year, awesome machine! Heads up display & 19" Alpina wheels. Apparently it would easily get to 160mph (indicated)!

Looked rather nice!!

Thanks for being so constructive. It must be the engineer in you.

I came up behind one of these on the Autopista a few months back when I had gone down to visit a friend. I was on my bike (GSX-R 1000) and he didn't want to let me by (not far out of La Manga so possibly a bit stuck up). I was in no hurry, but although the road was very quiet, he stayed in the outside (only 2 of them) lane so I could not get passed.

I just sat back, not really bothered. When we came behind a car in the second lane he obviously had to slow down. When the road cleared again he'd be flat on the throttle (well I assume flat by the black stuff belching from the exhaust pipe ). The acceleration from 90 - 140 MPH was very, very impressive for a Diesel family car

However, my bike will out accelerate pretty much anything at these speeds, so it's all relative (not wanting to turn into a bike v car thread!!!). Nearly had to change down to 5th He seemed to run into a wall about 150mph, not sure if that is the top speed or if he was hitting a 155 limiter??

Anyway, he eventually moved over and let me by, but it was one quick car!

Before I get flamed I must add the roads were very, very quiet, and conditions perfect. A lot of the Euro-barges sit on this stretch on their 155 limiter, it's not uncommon at all!

I think that it wasn't a 335d, if it was a 3 series more likey to be a 330d. 2 reasons, one they have only just released the 335d maybe 3 weeks ago and two they are fitted with partical filters in the exhaust so you don't get ANY black smoke at all.
I have a 535d re-mapped to 330bhp and 500ibft of torque. Real world performance is similar to E60 M5. I know because I have driven a v10 M5 in comparison.
The 335d is only 80kg lighter than the 535d. And the 5 series can put the power down better. The 335d does have a better auto box though with the paddle change which is similar to a SMG box for speed of change.
I have yet to drive one but going off what the 535d re-mapped is like it would be mind blowing. The only problem would be getting the power onto the road.
Should make a 4wd manual version.

Quick Reply: BMW 335d. They move dont they!
