Default Renault Clio Diesel

Might be getting one of these.
It's the 1.5 diesel with 106bhp.
Anyone driven one, what are like?

The DCi? Guy at work had one, loved it, though I cannot say what modern renaults are like but reliability isnt the best...

yeah the DCi.

Not worried too much about reliabilty, as it's new it will have breakdown cover etc.

On paper it looks good. 104bhp, 177 lb ft. 60 mpg.

Test drive I guess.

My '52 Clio DCI 80 has just passed 54,000, has never failed me and it does 650 miles on a tank.
The new models are slightly bigger and heavier.
Tax is only £50 a year and insurance is about £130 fully comp.

You will worry. It isn't much fun waiting at the side of the road for 2 hours for a recovery truck. Or waiting in a queue of angry people at your local dealer to be met with a snotty little **** who shrugs his shoulders at your problems - how about this one for a scenario.

You call your dealer.

"Hi, once again my ABS light is on."

"Ok sir, when would you like to bring the car in?"

"The first chance I can with a loan car"

"Ok, bare with me while I look at the calendar. We are booking 4 weeks from now. Bring your driving licence and the loan car will be £15 for the day and there will be NO fuel in it "

"Ok - see you then"

4 week later...........

You go to the dealer, queue up, get your loan car with no fuel and off you go for the day.

Somewhere around 3pm you will get a call.

"Hello Mr wish you hadn't bought a Renault. Your car is ready for collection"

"Great, is it fixed"

"Oh no, we have ordered a part, should be with us next week"

”So will you have a loan car next week?”

“No. We are booking from 5 weeks”

”Ok – book me in again - £15 and a driving licence right?”

Then by the time you get the car back in, it has another fault. This goes on, and on, and on, and on.

New cars aren’t that great. If you are buying on PCP consider all your options if your criteria is – Economical hatchback that costs me **** all each month.
