Fiesta ST
Anybody driven one of these? My girlfriend is thinking of getting a new car and she likes the new fiesta's but as i will have to drive it too, i would rather put in some money towards it and get the ST.
Any veiws on the ST, or any other car that is similar (except the Clio.)?
Cheers
Thommo

according to all the test put together of the latest hot hatch,s the ST just tops them. my dad has just bought a brand new one (midlife crisis i think) and its a superb little car , its extremely tight at the moment and will probably take about 1k to free up but the pick up is great and the handling is really tight and the steering very sharp especially the faster you go. the only thing i noticed when driving it and also what i,ve read about the st is it could do with an induction kit to help it breath better. Also the residuals on the st are very strong with year old models only costing about 1k less than new. If i can help at all with anything else just pm me ok mate

My mates got one and his brother has a 182. I've driven both and i'd have the clio for the fun. Just a better handling car and faster in a straight line!
The interior is better on the ST though

cheers for all the replies. The reason for not wanting the clio is purely a personal preferance thing, and i think it costs a bit more. I have owned french hot hatches in the paste and the only one i would think of owning again is a 205. I think the main reason though is that my girlfriend prefers the look of the fiesta.
i did have a look at the Fabia, and it does seem pretty good, but i just thought through reading reports that the ST sounding like it could be a great little fun car.
Cheers again and moneys if the test drive goes well, i will take you up on your offer and drop you an email.

Lad at work has one (Blue) and he loves it. Yes, other hatches are quicker, but the build quality of his ST is superb.
He's no boy racer so doesn't notice it not being faster than others.
I would buy one. Very nice cars. Best in Blue IMHO.

I've heard from various reviews that the ST is a 'good' car but could have been a 'great' car if it was running on smaller alloys ala Zetec-S. In terms of straight line speed, I'd be very surprised if an ST could pull on a chipped vRS.
Depends what you want but it isn't fast enough in terms of straight line speed to want me to give up my VRS and I get 25% off Ford cars and yet I still bought the Fabia. Bloody glad I did when considering the residuals and running costs.............

Citreon dropped a bollock with the C2. The Saxo was the car to be seen in years ago. Bought by girls, guys, and the max power brigade. I hardly ever see a C2 on the roads.
Bloody modded Saxo's everywhere though.
The Fiesta's interior design, materials, and build quality is in another league to the C2's.
Buy a cheap freanch car, get a cheap built french car.

Hi Thommo
I'm on my second ST. If your in the mood to throw it around it's a great little car, but if you need to do lots of motorway miles then beware, at 80mph the engine is at 4000rpm ish, the interior can be a uncomfortably noisey place to be!
If your buying a second hand car try and get one of the newer facelifted models, Ford has fixed lots of little problems that were present in the first ST's and the interior is a nicer place to be.

The C2 is ****e though to be fair!
I had a Saxo VTR before the Scoob and really liked it, then the Mrs bought a Fiesta Zetec-S. The fiesta was far better. Part of the reason why I got rid of the VTR was down to her buying her new car. I wouldn't write out her getting a Zetec-S, still a bit nippy plus you wouldn't have to put any money in Oh and none of those bloody stupid stripes on them!

Evo magazine quote the Clio 182 as being there favorite . They don't get much wrong. After owning a 182 for 18 months i'd have to say the 182 is probably still the best hot hatch on the road. The ST is overpriced and under powered although they do look the part styling wise.I'm not saying the ST is an altogether bad car i just think u can get a lot more for the same price. Also i can vouch for the 182 safety rating after mine ended up like this. I have to agree with money though a few parts did fall off when this happened but that was mainly due to the bus that hit me.

All above is just my opinion . Good luck with which ever car you choose.

As a feel good car, that's built well using good quality materials you really can't go wrong with a Fiesta.
If his lass is a Mrs. Schumacher type, then yes the Clio would be a better choice.

Ford rarely make a bad car, Probe accepted. I think they are a chunky, good looking little car that should be great to own. I thrashed by Fiesta 1.25Si for 5 years from new and it never missed a beat so there is no reason to doubt the build quality. Personally I wouldn't touch anything built by the French, Italians or Spanish so that doesn't really leave much in the supermini market.

Ferraris look great, sound great, handle great and go like $%^& off a shovel. They are unfortunately bolted together by someone who knows more about pizza than building cars. Considering how many they sell there are a frightening number of breakdowns. Did you see that Enzo on the back of the low loader in New York? When was the last time you saw a Japanese car on the hard shoulder with the bonnet up.
I admit I am being deliberately obtuse here. I would of course have a Ferrari if money were no object. I do however think that including Ferraris in a topic about Ford Fiestas is pushing thread creep to the limit. Perhaps you would like to make a case in favour of the build quality and reliabilty of Alfas or Fiats?
