Thumbs up 1999 Mazda 323 1.8 GT

Hi all
Just picked this up
Not exactly a pretty car but this can have its advantages - not exactly a thief magnet
65K miles FMSH
5 dr hatch
4 airbbags
full electrics
close ratio gearbox
New brakes and tyres
very good condition except for a couple of scuffed bumpers.
Interior in mint condition
Steering precise and lots of feedback through the Nardi wheel
Cost 1700.00 ukp
Group 11 insurance so costs us 300.00 ukp fully comp
So far, retuning around 35mpg - horsing it!
Sits on the motorway at 80, just out of the powerband, put your foot down and you in three digits in seconds.

It is a hoot!, got the same engine as the MX5 around 135BHP, in the same state of tune.

It handles well, brakes are great.

I had forgotten just how much fun warm hatchbacks could be.

We wanted an reliable car for Jenny that was fun and practical as we have two kids to move around and for less than 2k and this fits the bill!

Very pleased with it so far

Do they have aircon Paul - I've found that can be quite useful with kids

The 323 is a cracker. Like the RX7 it is a hidden gem that didn't sell in the numbers it deserved to. Being Japanese it'll run forever with a little bit of TLC. Would be interesting to comapre it to a French or Italian competitor from the same period...bet they would not be in such fine fettle.

Quite fancy one of these, how you getting on with it? I can't find any reference to the GT model with the MX5 engine, only the normal 1.8 Sport with 110ish bhp. Is yours an import or just rare?

It is a totally standard UK car. One of those Mazda gems that never sold well. Like the RX7 really.
