TBH the pitfalls and pleasures are best summed up in this thread on PH:

As you can see, the original poster (427james) has had his crank snap two weeks after buying the car, and is facing a bill of at least £4,000 to fix it.
On the other hand, one of the other contributors (simonsparrow) has a similar vintage car with 120,000 miles on the clock.
They're hand-built. You could get a good one. You could get a duff one. Mine's been good so far, but who knows what'll happen tomorrow? Put some cash aside as a contingency fund.
