Audi A4 Avant S Lline 2.0 TDI Quattro 170 ps
I'm hoping that someone here is an Audi expert and can help me out. I decided that my next car is to be an Audi A4 Avant diesel, I then went to the Audi website and had a look at the models expecting there to be 5-6 variations but actually there are about 40!
Anyway, cut a long story short I have now decided on the S Lline 2.0 TDI Quattro 170PS version.
Question,
Does anyone here have one and what are they like?
I can't afford brand new and to be honest the way cars depreciate I wouldn't buy new even if I had the money, but trying to find one of these second hand is a nightmare, any ideas?
Cheers
Dan

I've just bought an A3 S-Line Special Edition with the 170PS TDI engine.
I was given a delivery time of 12 weeks for an A3 of any type with the 170PS diesel engine. The dealer had a 5 week old demonstrator with the 170PS engine in and after having driven the 140PS back to back with it I ended up buying the demonstrator!!!
The dealer 3 weeks on still has'nt been able to get a replacement in.
The 170PS diesel engine is absolutely superb and its well worth waiting to get your hands on one. It pulls cleanly from 1200rpm and really comes on song at 1800rpm. Driving normally I change gear around 2300rpm which is far lower down the rev range than any other TDI I've driven.
Performance wise, it is bloody quick with immense torque, I find the traction control coming on in damp condition when changing from 1st to 2nd under normal driving (18inch 225/40 profile tyres)!!! On the motorway 80mph on the sat nav equates to 2400rpm which feels very relaxed and quiet. Economy wise, having done 2k miles in the last 3 weeks I've averaged 48mpg on mixed driving conditions.
Its well worth test driving a car with this spec engine in it, to see just how incredible it is. My mate with an Sti test drove it rather briskly and was pretty stunned at how it went considering it was an oil burner. Another mate with an A6 2.8 Quattro drove it; who loathes diesels; and was equally impressed.
Not sure how heavy an A4 is but I would imagine the driving and performance experience with the same engine would be very similar. Shame you don't live closer, you'd could have taken it for a spin!!
