Have you checked that the (usually two) rods between the gearleaver and the gearbox are still connected properly?

On the G/F`s Pug 106 the fuse box decided to go into melt down - pugs well known for electrical problems (sorry bit off topic)

That's funny, cos i've had over 10 Pugs now and all have been pretty much reliable bar a few normal niggles.

As for the topic, we'll assume its a 306 here - as above, check the gear rods but also have a look at the gearbox to engine connection - not sure what engine unit the 99 models have, but the bolts holding the gearbox on the older units can come loose, which would effectively move the input shaft on the gearbox.

And check the lower engine mounts, and/or the gearbox mount as well.

well i found out what it was, the first link that comes from the box, there is a ball like effect on the end and it slots into the next link so it pivots with a rubber like gromet, it had come out of the rubber so my m8 pushed it back into place and its fine again now but advised me to change it,
so if that happens to any of you out there thats what maybe the cause,

so we can have the rest of the sarcastic comments now, thing is i aint gonna drive the scoob to work as im a chippy, and that = dust.

Why not, i've got 230bhp/ton after all, and this was coming onto the motorway in 3rd gear, so no traction issues - I was just quicker and he had to move over

From a standstill or in the wet i'd have no chance

1st 205 TD. Wouldn't start when warm (problem with the starter motor (Known problem))

206 the driveshaft started to make a noise after a years ownership. Turned out it had partially snapped.

2nd 205 TD. Coming down the road at 60 mile an hour (national speed limit road). When some plonker pulls out in front of me from a junction. Come to flash my head lights and the whole dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and lost power. Also it had a diesel and oil leak.

Current Renault clio (X reg 2000 1,6 RSI). Air con has bust. The middle section of the exhaust corroded and fell off in a matter of a week. And now the horn doesn't work.

Looks like French cars and me don't mix.

on the saxo and 106, the linkages that are bolted to the botom of the bulkhead, they have a little black plastic ball on them. Mine came off, making the gear selection, nion impossible, real pain in the ****, its a common problem. If its this, its real easy to see when you have the car on ramps. Its also real easy to change.

Word of warning though, buy a new one from euro parts, its a weak LINK (lol) so a part from the breakers is also liable to fail at any time. There not fortunes, £30 quid tops and about half an hr start to finish to do the job

Hope you get sorted

john

I've got the GrpA ones on mine from Griffiths Engineering - only £60 for all 3 rods, and they have proper rose joints on the end, with clips that ensure they never come off - also tightens the gear change up when mated with the quick shift

Sorry - no chance. Good cars for the modern heavier breed of GTi's, I had a GTi-6, but its still beaten by the 205.........
