Default classic beetle.

my wife has a niggling obsession with getting a classic beetle next.
I told her its going to be a money pit but I think she may need to get it out of her system.

any owners out there care to comment please?

Never an owner, but was told to watch out for the electrics - 6v systems can be hell, later 12v better. All hearsay.

Ive never seen the attraction myself, but can kind of appreciate the social aspect of owning a bug.
Sometimes its best to let her get on with it and have the easy life for a while

Not in the slightest bit interested either. Karmann Ghia might be interesting though?

It's this strange "but it's cute" obsession women have with VW bug's & 2CV'c etc.. best not get in the way of it... just go with the flow..... "yes dear, we'll call him Herbie"......

Owned two over a space of 7+ years, Brendan is right about the 6 volt electrics, I had mine re-wired after various disasters! They are very slow and good to learn to drive in, but the real issue (even 10 so years ago) is rust, they are riddled with it usually in places that arnt visible. Be very careful of any that have been re-sprayed. If you need more info let me know, I wo*ked on them for years!
