The one I've been wating for (S2000 vs UK STI)
Disclaimer - if you don't like vehicle comparison threads I advise you to read no further as this will be of zero interest to you
Since I got the Honda I've always wondered how it would compare to a UK sti (non-ppp) and despite having a fairly good idea you never really know until you get a run at one.
Tonight, I found myself behind one at the last set of lights leading onto a long straight, slightly uphill, on the bypass. I probably made my intentions pretty clear when I raised my roof on a perfectly sunny spring evening whilst sitting at the lights - I didn't want to give away any advantage
The lights changes and at about 30mph the BMW in front of the STI moved over and the road was ours for 100s of metres into the distance. He nailed it which presented something of a problem as 30mph is the S2000s dead zone between 1st gear and being off-vtec in 2nd. I lost an instant 2 car lengths until I switched onto the upper lobes where thereafter we sat the same distance appart through the gears. This run highlighted the importance of driving the S2000 at 10/10ths as the low grunt of a turbo car was truely devistating when I was off-vtec but I was pleased to match the STI once up and running.
We got caught behind a van that had moved to overtake a JCB and slowed to approximately 60mph so I dropped to 3rd gear. When the road cleared the STI again went for it and moved into the 'slow' lane at the earliest oppertunity thereby playing the 'pass me if you can'card. The answer was, of course, no! However, I was amazed to note that I was definately a bawhair quicker on the move and through 3rd and 4th gears creeped up alongside. If the road and the law allowed i might have even put my nose in front on the far side of 140mph but nevertheless I was impressed that the S2000 had the legs, albeit, very little ones
As you know my car does have an exhaust system but the STI did have an aftermarket exhaust. Judging by the lack of noise I'd guess it was just the backbox and not a full-decat so I expect it gives him negligable/if any gains.
Driver for driver and standard for standard I'd expect the STI to be a fraction quicker below 60mph and obviously markedly quicker if a launch was involved but pretty much neck and neck thereafter. It also goes without saying that in the twisties the S2000 has to ensure it remains in vtec all the time or the mid-range of the scooby will punish it
Got a friendly flash of the lights and never found the other drivers behaviour unpredictable or threatening in any way
I have no interest in a s2000 vs sti heated debate. This is only a recollection of what happened on this occassion. If you really want to argue with me search 'Saxo Boy' and 'S2000' and you'll find plenty of my opinion on the matter

Bloody hell that was a quick response! I had the roof down because there isn't a named storm outside and because I'm not a ******* that drives around with exhaust silencers in and a hard top

Am I correct in my recollection that blobeye sti uk's have 260bhp as standard and that the PPP'd versions have 300bhp? This would explain how I was managing to creep up on him if he only had 20bhp more but 200kg more to carry and more diffs to turn

But I have taken the silencers out now
The PPP allegedly has 305 bhp but they very very rarely make that on any dyno worth its salt. I organised a dyno day at WRC and one of them just about got there after about 10 runs
The EVO's made their power, curiously

There shouldn't be much difference between them once rolling as they are very close in terms of power/weight etc. Most performance cars CTR, S2000, LCR, VXR, ST, STi (std) even WRX will be very similar when acclerating from that kind of speed if each is in the correct gear to start with. If you look at most of their Qtr mile times theres not a huge difference in them, 4wd obviously helps the scoobs in that respect if launched hard.
I had a similar run against a Nissan 350z (280bhp) in my UK (std) Turbo (215bhp) and i thought it would walk off into the distance, he gained about 1/2 a car length over about 150 - 200m.
You need a good 300bhp+ to start really pulling away from most of these hot hatches, S2000, WRX's etc. now.

Not had a run with an Nissan 350z, which is along with the RX8 seen as something of a rival for my car. They seem to be as rare as rockinghorse sh*t around my way.
I also agree there seems to be a bunching of performance cars that all have similar attributes. I'm too young to remember but I gather it never used to be this way and that buying a cossie back in the 80s was a ticket do wave bye-bye to anthing that wasn't a lotus carlton, 911 or ferrari. More consumer choice nowadays I guess

I would have to be surprised if that wasn't a PPP'd car you were chasing. Lighter weight + lack of 4wd power loss would be quite in your favour.

My boss has both and he has driven each one against the other with his missus driving the other, his opinion is that the sti is fast but not a lot, although the s2000 has to work a lot harder to keep up.
Im waiting for TSL333 vs S2000 just out of interest.

Unless you're racing someone, in which case putting the lid up reduces drag

I wonder if anyone'll race me on a private road?
RS6 isn't just for Chrimbo, it's for life!!
LMAO @ the supercharger pic - you'd probably still struggle against an RS6 though!

Bit of a long story John...
http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php...ic=325803&st=0
Bought the kit for a good price after doing much research. I got it all fitted, with a couple of hiccups. Its an amazingly designed bit of kit and fits so well, but my circumstances didnt really suit in the end.
Its my daily driver and although the kit is reliable, 350 bhp is a big hike from 240. I also came to realise that using the supplied rising rate FPR and timing management, was a very hard part to fit, and the alternative was an AEM (GEMS ish) ECU and you try find anyone that could map it! That was another £1500 and I ran out of patience and took it off So I never actually ran it!
Maybe another day soon....
