Default Running costs of a Mini Cooper compared to......

.......a Clio 172???
Dear old Mummy wants to possibly make the jump from her renault to the above. Being a BMW essentially, are they pricey on servicing and parts. What are the service intervals.
Any more imput would be appriciated on any other aspects of the ownership experience
Cheers

uk minis should all have that nice package that gives 3 or 5 years free serviceing ( depending on ages, this cost about £500 when new)

front tyres didn't last to long on my cooper s but ... I doubt your mum will give it as much stick

I have had 2, my brother has had one and we have never had a problem , great little car

Yep - you can get the TLC package which is 3 years free servicing from new. I had one for 6 months and loved it

Sounds good so far. I would personally love her to keep the Clio as when they go on their hols - it's all mine. Problem is that it has a nasty habit of not starting now and again so the old dears are getting a touch fed up with it Don't think an S is in the playing field so i'm hoping that a "normal" Cooper will provide me with some fun

Isn't there a new one coming out soon?

If your Mum is buying new, might be worth hanging on for the new model, or negotiating a nice discount off the existing one.

Hi! Its not worth waiting for the new MINI as it will be made a lot cheaper (for the same cost to buy) This is as BMW only make a tiny profit on the MINI at the moment. The current MINI bonnet is one of the most expensive standard car parts to make hence why the new one will be different ( as well as eu law stating the lights can't raise with the bonnet) Also the next one will have the Peugeot engine A good 2nd hand cooper will be great fun and should last well.
Cheers col
