Only as quick as the bog standard 2.0 up to about 5000rpm then a bit quicker when the vvt does it's work.
Unless you are really thrashing it they don't feel that much different to a 2.0 Zetec.
The new Focus with the 2.0 Duratec from the Mondeo actually feels stronger as it has a wider spread of torque and has 15bhp more than the old 2.0.
Cheers

I think it depends what you've come from!!!
if you've come from a lukewarm hatch or a micra 1.0 then it will feel quick - however if you've previously owned a Clio182/Scooby/CTR, then you might feel shortchanged

If you can afford it, go for the RS. Not the animal some say they are (owned one for 2 years) but on back camber ridden roads they can be a bit unrully.
As for the ST ??? have read of owners being very consered that they don't even get 170bhp. There was a thread on some Ford site I went on a couple years ago, where some had stuck there ST's on rolling roads, and most if not all were only quoting 150'ish bhp.
A Clio 172 will p1ss all over one.

Very very nice handling and quite quick, slightly slower than my clio172 that we had at the same time.
The basic model is heads above any other focus, apart from the RS. Seats are very good and fit and finish great.
I'm glad we bought it, she loves it and I love driving it. slower than the scoob of course but the handling is so sweet.

I'll add another comment, the fuel consumption is crap for the performance you get.
The new 2.5, 5 cylinder, turbocharged, 225bhp ST Focus is actually more economical on a run.
On the combined cylcle only 1.5mpg seperates the two cars.
In fact a V8 XJ with auto box is only 4mpg behind the ST170 on the extra urban cycle.
My workmate is currently selling his.
Cheers

"Normal" 2.0 engine with no whizzy cams or stuff but decent suspension and stability control gubbins.
No idea of prices though.

I had a 2.0 Zetec ESP a few years back and it was a fantastic car. Best car I've ever owned. But the suspension is very soft compared to the ST... it rolls a lot through the corners!
