Is it a new GSi Turbo (Z20LET), or the older Mk3 GSi with turbo conversion (C20LET)?
If it is a C20LET running EDS phase 2 etc, then 290bhp is very possible.
My girlfriend has a Corsa with C20LET phase 2 conversion that is running 280bhp... this was tested on a RR. She also has a small intercooler, whereas the one you've mentioned is a large IC. These performance figures can be attained easily on this engine with very little work. Its when you're thinking phase 3.5 that more engine work is required.
If it is a Z20LET then I would want to see proof of the figures, as those engines are harder to tune.
Have you got any more info... we're involved in Vauxhall Sports Car club so may know of it!!

That used to be a 1.8 Ecocrap (!) then... he's done the best thing by getting rid of the original engine!
290bhp is believable then!
Good luck with it, and if you want to ask any questions, feel free to PM me... I've worked with Vauxhalls for years and done enough engine conversions and mods of my own!
Oh yeah, has it got a 6 speed (F28) gearbox, or 5 speed (F20)?

290bhp is possible on a z20 let, however needs a hell of alot of work and has a nasty habbit of breaking things, (mate's is running 290 and he's had 2 rebuilds and now management has gone **** up, but he's had to have more or less whole engine built from scratch pistons rods, hybrid turbo etc etc)

As above, 290nhp on a C20LET is very easy, and will be reliable.
I had one running between 280-300bhp whick took a LOT of abuse.
Fantastic engine.
(Change the Phase 2 chip for a Phase 3.5 for 320bhp!!!!)

my last car was a astra mk4 sri turbo and it was running 289 bhp when last on rollers but had a fair bit done to it but was a waste of time would just wheel spin any gear unless dry road on a good day and then it was 4th before you could get power down without problems spent about 5k on mine mods engine and suspension waste of money thats why i bought my rb5 for 4wheel drive

the highest ive seen a c20let in bhp is, 500bhp. that was put in to a manta. uprated turbo, cam pullies, throttle boddies, polisted & ported head, forged pistons, ful sainless system with a four branch, & an uprated ecu. standard though, the c20let is around the 220 mark. the problem was the cars them selfs... too bloody heavey.
