just Purchased a brand new car
Always owned second hand cars but have yearned for that new car smell and that smug feeling that nobody has owned it before, ragged it etc...
Things have been going well lately so I thought 'why not' so I waltzed into the dealership like a king and got a spanking new motor , now a few of you may be a bit jealous but the way I look at it I work hard so i'm not going to apologise for wanting the best for myself
.....I should recieve my Toyota Aygo in two weeks time

Quite fancy one of these for the wife. Let us know what you think after you've had it a while.
Never had a new car myself as prefer to buy higher spec but older. It's all a trade off for what you want so if you want a new one then just do it

I like cars that are kind to the enviroment. It is the new cool for me
What spec / colour did you go for, and what do you drive at the moment ?
What spec / colour did you go for, and what do you drive at the moment ?
I have just got a job that involves a 40 mile commute either way so I needed reliability, warranty, economy and preferably one seat (travel alone so no need for extra space) went to test drive a golf TDI and was unimpressed with it for the money and so went to my local Toyota dealer.
First check was whether I could fit in the thing , I am 6ft3" and a big bloke so I was a little worried but the space in the front was fine so one tick there, I then took it out for a spin (1.0 VVTI 3 Cyl) and I was suprised! it was'nt bad!.
got back to the showroom and the sales lady decided to show me the options list and I nearly spat my coffee over her, spoilers, alloys, sports exhausts, springs NO THANKYOU this car is a workhorse not a fashion accessory (why would you fit a sports exhaust on a car that produces 67BHP?.
Bit dissapointed that the base Aygo only came in Chilli red (fancied it in stealth black ) but I certainly was'nt going for an Aygo + just to change the colour so there we are
Aygo (06 plate)
Red
Cd player
nothing else really
£6745 OTR, tried to get £ off but did'nt have much joy there (quite embarassing really ) but got a tank of fuel and car mats thrown in.
Here in 2 weeks group 1 insurance, £75 a yr tax, 61.8MPG combined
Three yrs Manufacturers warranty, 1 yr RAC
Who could resist, spent far too much on motoring up to now (must admit a fireblade for the summer months may be an idea though )
Quite up for a bit of p*ss taking so bring it on everyone, I know i'll look stupid in it, I know it is a girls car but I am not vain enough to care about that carp
Alas- I will let you know when I get it

They're pretty keenly priced for a decent little car. I reckon residuals should be good too... cheap running costs will keep it attractive s/h. So probably some real value motoring... new car for a year's depreciation on a STi? Can't be bad.

My dealer say toyota have a special and it looks really attractive. Going for the plus model in red/silver. Like some, I too want enviro friendly cars, if I get this one, the 6 can stay at home. Huge saving on the fuel bills.

Only thing for me is that a new 1.2 VW polo is £7495 on the road.
The thing about the Aygo is the engine is quite good and V economical

Only thing I'd say is that I did the commute in a C2 for two years, about 50-60 miles a day. C2 was fun, economical and cheap. But I got fed up with being in a shopping trolley all the time.
Good luck with it, great cars

The polo is nearly as big as the golf, has the best small car residuals, so what you lost in fuel, you'd gain in selling. The polo is so well built as well.
The one I couldn't believe was the basic price of a yaris

As for the Polo vs Aygo option. The Polo weighs more, will be less good to drive, has less power and uses about 30% more fuel. In this case of a 40 mile each way commute, that's an extra £10/week on fuel, for a car which will not go as well (less power, more weight is not going to be a good thing), not drive as well and almost certainly would be less reliable than a Toyota.
Just goes to show, horses for courses. However, unless you're very rich, no-one in their right mind would look to a scoob etc for long distance daily commuting - especially as you'd probably only end up "keeping with the flow" on conjested motorways or whatever, so can't use lots of performance anyway.
Monty - just specify pimp tints on the windows so no-one can see you, and then sit inside but hidden, smug in the knowledge that you've got the right car for you!

I must admit i spend just as much time cleaning /washing it as i do the Scooby...and you wont be spending all your spare time in the petrol station.

Thanks everyone, cant believe I've not been slated yet
we will have to see
The Polo was a good suggestion and I take on board what you say but it is a grand more in the first place (which on these cars is a lot), and it will cost me around £6-700 extra in fuel a year (along with the probability of more insurance and tax), and the only benefit is the residuals (which for the Aygo are still unknown).
I planned to use my escort estate (cost me £800 last year) as its diesel and pretty economical but I cant risk the unreliabiliy and possible costs of unexpected repairs etc so I bought the littl-un, I have been wondering whether I made the right decision but we will see
glad she/you like the 107 they are good little cars, I went with the toyota due to the dealership being very good and somebody told me the warranties were different with only Toyota giving the full 3 yrs manufacturers one (probably carp but my mind was made up) how have you found the engine? it felt ok on the test drive but is it going to dissapoint when I come to my first big hill etc?

Not anymore it ain't, from tomorrow it will be £40 per year tax.................

I bought a 306 D Turbo for doing 160 mile / day round trip commuting (for many months but not permanent). I can absolutely guarantee that no matter how many miles I put on it, what I do to it etc, it won't lose more than £1500 in value even if I keep it for 20 years more .

Hi there,
| am considering buying something similar myself. I have the bike as a toy and what I want from the car is no hassle cheap motoring. Buying a brand new car with a three year warranty will provide that. Best way to do it is go for the lowest spec (as you have done), that way you are paying for the engineering and not metallic paint, alloys wheels, sterso upgrade, leather, etc. There are some real bargains around.
My only concern is what these cars are like out of town. I do around 12K miles a year in the car, some of which is on rural roads and motorway.
Best of luck with the new car.
Martin.

TBH I would have gone for the carbon quartz colour if I could have just paid the £300 for the metallic option but to get the option you have to upgrade to the + model (which itself is £500) and I know that is nothing for more speakers RCL and front elec windows but it was'nt what I was after.
I test drove the carbon colour and it is the best colour but the red will do me
Am I right in thinking the sport model only adds aloys, front fogs and rev counter (which sticks out like an afterthought) I would go with the + and buy some nice anthracite wheels
