Default Just bought my dream car!

Well, after much time, research and debate... I finally thought I would take the plunge!

Unfortunately it needed a little TLC when it arrived from the US (blew a head gasket in the first 10 minutes of driving her!!) but it is back up and running, it's been MOTed, I got the indicators UK road legal... I'm just waiting to get the registration and tax sorted (at the moment I have plates that read GT500 to get her through the MOT!! how cool is that!)

Hope you like the pictures!

hehe... yeah it has become rather popular of late hasn't it.

I liked it well before the movie... My step father restored old classic cars. Of his collection...the jag e type and original 66 shelby mustang were really really beautiful and both sounded the part too
As nice as the 66 mustang was I always prefered the styling of the 67/68 shelby.
As it happens, years down the line... I met a certain young lady (now my wife)... she had a little model of the 68 GT500 on her mantle piece! I knew it was meant to be
It was both of our dream cars! But she had spotted it in 'that movie' though

That's a bit achievable for a dream isn't it?

My dream would be a 996 GT3. I'll never have one - hence the dream!

Lovely motor, get some more pics up once you've had it for a while, and maybe a review of it?

Hehe, Yup not only are corners that little more tricky in a HUGE yank car with 6.4 liters behind you on narrow UK roads... at the moment... no power steering... it's like driving a sherman tank with an elephant sitting in the glove box
Parking is especially fun!

The exhaust blows a little, so as nice as the car sounds (and it sounds very nice ) It can be improved... one thing at a time tho... power steering first!!

_strike_ I'm sure you'll get your evo mate!

Nice ride, man!

You mind giving a ball park figure on how much it cost to ship it to the UK, please?

I'm considering buying a new GT500 convertible for around $30,000 here, but every time I see the classic on the freeway.

Or maybe an old GTO!

How mcuh does it cost you to fill her up?

Enjoy!

Nice car mplaczek. Watch it on wet roads though..lol!!

200T, I shipped over a '59 apache pick up last year and the shipping only part was around £1200. Don't forget to factor in duty, vat etc if you're thinking about it. If you are, contact an importer such as Kingstown shipping or specialised shipping for advice.

Thanks for the contact. Although I am sure it is not worthwhile financially, I had considered buying some yank motors and sending them back to a mate to sell in the UK. As I am unable to work due to visa restrictions, it would be a good way to fill my time if nothing else!

Cheers.

Hi 2000TLondon... Yup V8voodoo is about right... it was appox £1000 to bring it over, import duty from the US is 10% and you have to slap VAT on top of all of that too. It does end up quite expensive. Then you have to remember SVA (not too much of a prob on classics) and MOT etc to get the car legal in the UK....
The biggest bargaining chip you have... there are a fair number of mustangs in the US... it is a very high volume car there. The cost of buying one here where they are rare as hens teeth can be much higher. With the exchange rate you can get a bargain if you look around a little.
