Viewing used cars-time wasting vendors
Went to view a used vehicle at a well known and respected (on this website) specialist.
Arrived to find the 4yr old car which was described as 'immaculate' had quite a few dings on the body, 3 kerbed alloys with 2 very cheap budget tyres, a chipped windscreen which was turning 'milky' around the chip, 20K miles more than advertised (although I note they changed the advert now) and boot trim that was hacked up by 'moving golf clubs in and out' to quote the owner- glad to see they'd looked after it-not. Not to mention that the recent service had missed out a very important component vital to continued reliable performance and worse still they seemed to have no idea that it should have been done. Not only that I travelled some distance to see which meant I spent £40 in fuel viewing a piece of crap, all because someone saw fit to misdescribe a car for what I presume was 'salemanship' purposes.
I'm posting this as a warning really as well as some splein venting. Never believe descriptions and never take someone's reputation as a guarantee the vehicle will be any good. Waste of time, money and my effort as well as theirs. Good business sense? I think not, particularly as I also had in mind spending 30K with them on another vehicle for myself.
Angry isn't really the word, just sad that someone so respected chose to operate this way on this particular occasion. I won't be naming and shaming but what I will say is that if you are ever considering buying something or using services from anyone advertising on here then be very, very careful.

pee's me off too. Ive sold about 6 cars since Ive been driving and the first person to see my cars have bought them. Never had trouble shifting a car. but then its annoying knowing I have to view at least 10 other cars and travel the country to find the right one...

it is a shame when that happens - its bad enough when you go to see a car that has been mis-described by a private individual (you give them the benefit of the doubt due to lack of knowledge) but I for one would expect traders (especially with a good rep) to give an 'honest' description.
I see on ebay and so on people advertise even 10 year old cars as immaculate and i think - well how can you describe a car on the road for 10 years 'immaculate'. To me immaculate is only when a car is BRAND NEW - not a mark on it - even after a year on the roads you will get stone chips/car park dings - personally i think its to be expected.
Obviously every1 has there own definition/perception of mint/immaculate. When going to buy you should expect the odd car park ding and stone chip REGARDLESS of what the seller says.

I see what you mean about the odd ding, however I arrived in a car of the same age and that didn't have a single mark on it. I wasn't expecting something in showroom condition but to my mind the word 'immaculate' means something well looked after in good condition for it's age and mileage.
Not a misdescribed worn out wreck with incomplete service history and a 'well used and abused' feel.

As far as I can see the misleading description applied only to the car I saw not their other stock. Although I didn't look at the other vehicles that closely. Their performance over the used vehicle I went to see made me decide there and then that they will never get a single penny of my money whatever the circumstances.
I don't want to name them as I suspect they could probably be quite vindictive if they wanted and people here would most likely support them due to what I see as their 'whiter than white' reputation on this board. If anyone really want to work out who it is I'm sure that looking at the list of site advertisers and supporters will enable them to work it out.
Presuming people follow my advice to take nothing at face value, whatever the reputation of the company on here and in the motoring press they won't be going far wrong. It's good advice for anyone viewing any car. Normally I wouldn't travel so far but their rep is SO good here I assumed I was onto a good thing. Thing is even the so called good guys can get it wrong and become blinded by their own agenda.
Shame I can't take them to small claims court for my wasted time and petrol really............

I can sympathise
I went through this about this time last year, looked at private and trade and still got to look at a load of old tat in the most, one claimed FSH - it did upto a point then it was without 13k miles worth and overdue a cambelt service!
others where just rubbish, not what was advertised, dents, scrapes in paint interiors that looked like it had been a kennel. Bad repairs, etc.
Just keep looking!
