Vauxhall Senator 3.0 24v
Don't all laugh at once but i was just wondering if anyone on here has had any experiences with these cars
I've just bought one for buttons (much to the amusement of my friends!!)....but for some strange reason i find it actually an ok car!!
Good engine note, lsd, RWD, full leather, electric everything...all for less than what most spend on a monthly payment
Help...am i going mad??

I had one from 97-98 and it was fine.
I did 20k in mine without fault and I ragged the **** of it like no other car I've ever had.
Built better than your usual Vaux and not so bad on juice - 30ish on runs and 22 around town, which isn't bad for a 3 litre car that's quite heavy.
I can't really offer any advice on fixing as mine was literally rock solid and cost me about £300 for a new exhaust in the 20k I owned it. I sold it to a guy I worked with at the time and he did another 10k without fault before I moved on.
The 12v is meant to be the better motor, but I found mine to be a peach. I'd have another any day if a good one presented itself.
Mine was bubbling around all the arches and got worse quickly - but that's it. Oh, and I got an indicated 145mph in Germany with a touch left before some **** in a 750i pulled out on me.

Nowt wrong with them, many traffic police still regard them as the best m/way patrol car. Very grunty.
They were very well built in the German Opel plant, as good as a contemporary 5-series.
Good fun on wet roundabouts too

They are good cars for the money. They are alot better on fuel than you'd expect and once rolling they are very very fast. I saw an indicated 157mph from old 24 valve carlton on private land They are well trimmed and well specced up and I was thinking about another Carlton for the winter but never got round to it. The only problem with old vauxhalls is rust

Highest speed I've ever been at was in an unmarked Police one some years ago. Only 156 mph so the Carlton is quicker!!!

Brother also had an ex-police manual 24v. Slightly less toys than the commercial ones, but good power and torque through the range, and just about as quick as a standard WRX once rolling. Chassis surprisingly good, fantastic cars if you want to do a long journey with 4 people in.

great cars, just bought a 24v carlton without an MOT and spent 400 quid getting her through the test.
EVERYTHING that needed work was corrosion related, despite it having done 180k all the mechanicals are spot on.
The one I had before did a weekender from London to Southport and back, 5 up, with a bootful of luggage on one tank of fuel
Buy one and then get welding lessons and you're laughing.
astraboy.

Nothing wrong with vauxhalls! I owned a Corsa Sport for a year, great fun and ultra reliable. When we were younger we went all over Europe in a Mk II Cavalier with no problems what so ever.

The senators were/are great cars, as already stated, they were loved by the Traffic guys who drove them.
There used to be a good website called ......autobahnstormers , or something like.
Enjoy it!

we had one at my old place of work, had it on the limiter in 3rd at indicated 140mph. was bloody quick for an auto and soo comfy with all that leather and space inside just a shame that shifting to D it really seemed over geared and never pulled much faster. i bet the manuals are loads better
