Default I have sold my Subaru!

I sold my 94 WRX last night for £5000. I'm looking for something of similar value, and have come up with a few ideas. Mostly German...

Am toying with the idea of a BMW 840ci, they seem quite rare, and for some reason they appeal to me.

The ones i have seen are all for sale with around 140000 miles on them but with FSH. Will they be completely knackered? I only do around 7000-8000 miles a year, so can anyone give me some advise as to whether these are worthwhile buying at that mileage, or best avoided?

Thanks all,

Rob

I've heard they're very expensive to fix when they go wrong. At those sorts of mileages they probably will do before long!

Repair and running costs are huge. Putting things into perspective your Impreza new cost around £17000 at 12 years old it realised £5k. BMW 840i cost £50k ish in 1994 and now costs £5k. The're cheap for a reason. How about a 328i if you want a Beemer....makes far more sense

Another vote for the 540i..In manual if poss..with all the M-Tec bits on..

Quality motor..

Avoid the 8 series mate.Unless you have very big stones, and these will have to match your pocket depth.

540i would be good... although I think an auto would suit the car better than a manual

I did see a stonking 540i that had load of M-tech bits and peices on, but it was sold within 24 hours of advertising!!

Sounds like the 8 series in a step in the wrong direction!! Think i'll swerve that one!!

Could you not get some sort of warranty through a third party for the 840i as they are cracking looking cars.

One of my mates has an 840ci sport. As said, very expensive to own. I used to moan about the prices I was paying to service the scoob, but a couple of weeks ago he rang me up to claim 'The Most Expensive Service Award' - Type 2 Service, 2 front tyres and disks and pads all round.... £2250!

A week later a door lock mechanism broke and that was another £200. Lovely sounding car though...

To be fair, the auto does suit better, but the manuals are rare and very very rapid for a big motor. There around 300bhp IIRC,so plenty of tail out fun with the manual. With the 540 really bein the last of the line of the E34 model,a lot came with tons of gadgets on.The only thing i didnt like was the standard 5 spoke alloys.18" Split rim BBS's suit perfect..

Get one bought...

I don't think you're gonna get a good 8 series for £5k. Plenty of 5 and 7 series. I got a P reg 4.4 740 with tv, 18inch wheels (same as m5), electric everything, full history, tax & mot, 95k miles for £4k. Nice motor too. Oh, and the auto's work very nicely with the 4.4 V8.

95k though, but mostly motorway miles - excellent condition, with only Magnex decat turbo back for mods.

Price about right I thought
