Driven a TT Quattro Sport and been in my mates Elise loads, and I would say unless you cant live with the impracticality of the Elise, then the Elise is the car to go for hands down!
The Elise is faster, much better handling, should hold its value better long-term, doesnt have a hairdresser/city-boy image like the TT.
On the other hand Im about to buy a new car, and would love an Elise, but getting in and out really is a problem, and if you are commuting to work in a suit then I think it would get too annoying. The (S1) roofs do drip a bit in heavy rain as well!

TT handling is very poor in comparision with the Elise. Decide whether you want comfort or a drivers car as they are miles apart in that respect.

Driven both. No contest here. The TT is uninvolving but quick in 225 option and while the Elise may utimately be not as quick (depending on how long you want the engine to survive) it does let you know excatly what is happening under the wheels. I defy you not to have a smile on your face after every drive. Elise ownership may be more painful, but probably worth it.
Remember the old adage LOTUS. LotsOfTroubleUsuallySerious. Be careful when buying.
Great cars and relatively low running costs, but stand out from the crowd in the Lotus rather than being part of it in the TT.

not a fan of the tt then guys other than common as pig in **** what are they like and lets be honest the classic scoob is not esactly prestige anymore no they are soo cheap to buy

Scoob would 'have' an Elise in a straight line, but a 750Kg car with 140/150hp will clear off from a well driven scoob around twisties.
Having said that there was a Autocar 'best handling' article of a few years back that had it down as a close run thing between a Classic and S1.
The biggest performance improvement on any car is bound to be the driver......

My pretty much standard S1 (131 BHP 740KG) was quicker than a WRX until you over 60 ish, then the Elise loses out with lack of torque. Elise no good on the motorway etc but that's not really what the cars about. Drive one, doesn't suit everyone especially as an everyday drive.
How much cash are you gonna spend?
S1 S160 is the one to go for (13k ish)
S2 111s (18-20k ish) or
111r (190 BHP toyota lump) but over 20k

Suggest you try an Elise first, I can't drive one for more than 5 minutes as my right leg really starts to ache, whether it's the height or the angle of the pedals I don't know but I bloody hate it! TT on the other was very good inside and comfy.
Very different cars though. I bought an S2000 in the end, not much between it and my mates 111S Elise.

TT is apparently a MkIV?Golf in drag, and drives much the same. I always remember someone commenting on a scoob vs TT, and which is better for a motorway cruise and for a B-road blast. They said they preferred the TT for the motorway and the scoob for the B-roads.
S2000 also well worth a look for a driver's car with some creature comforts.

Loved my elise (S1 Sport160), but don't think I could put up with one as my only/everyday car.
Never driven a TT, but always struck me as style over function, S2000 would be my choice for a car of this type that you could use everyday.

Does it have to be TT or elise?? If not what about a Boxter or as someone else said an S2000. S2000 would probably be as much fun as any car but with gauranteed reliability and ease of ownership. Two years running at top of Top Gear survey, or was it JD power, says it all.

We've got a BMW 330 + an Audi TT Roadster 225. Used to own a JDM STi Version V (old school) a few years back. I'd say that the TT is a great car. I only get to drive it a w/ends + I really look forward to it! Looks good, drives great, it's actually pretty nippy + sounds good too (V5 throb, not as good as STi though). I'd agree that it can't be compared to an Elise + I've never driven one so can't comment on how good they are. Elise is not really an everyday proposition though, is it?

S2000 boot is bad though, really awkward shape, TT's is much bigger, Elises is obviously smaller. S2k easy to get in/out, roof takes 6 secs, reliable.
Great fun, great looking, great drive, you need to give it respect in the wet but they are not as bad as people make out. Just don't drive like a tit and it won't treat you like one

Adam - My neighbour had a 150 so no 4WD.
It seemed loads bigger to me, the S2k (as you know) has the space saver intruding into the boot space and the 'well' is ok for some shopping, I can just about get two cabin sized luggage cases but not a lot else, christ my computer only just fits and it has to sit at an angle and even then it removed some paint from the boot lid
The TT just seemed far more practical IIRC... Could get full sized case in.
S2k ok for soft bags and separate items...

I have looked it up and the TT is 180 versus 142 litres of boot capacity.
That is great news for me. Have used the S2000 for the wife and I to go away for 5 days and it was fine. Was worried the TT rpadster I am about to buy was a lot worse than that but it seems the opposite is te case.
That is really great news. Thanks!

Nah its exactly the same engine in all four Turbo'd TTs mate... 1.8 Turbo 4-cylinders engines, I'm led to believe that its just different intercooling/ecu programs which differentiate the 150/180/225/245 models.
The TT 3.2 comes with a V6 engine.
Cheers,
Grant

I havent driven a tt so cant comment on them, but i have had an elise s1 111s for the last 14 months and love it. As you havent driven one, the best way to describe it is as a larger go kart for the road. I have let a couple of mates drive it and the first thing they always comment on is the steering... its so direct Performance wise, its about the same as my old scooby with 277bhp, although it lacks that boost mid range and the scooby sound . My elise has a sports exhaust and de-cat with induction kit.
Before i bought mine i registered with SELOC for some advice and was invited to a track day where i was taken out in a variety of models.
Good luck.

Defo the same engines mate, as sgcooby said the "5" on the engine cover just indicates that the engine has 5 valves per cylinder.. Meaning it is a 4-cylinder, 1.8 20v Turbo.
The only recent VAG cars that I can think of was the MKiV Golf/Bora/Passat that came with a 2.3 V5 N/A engine.
Cheers,
Grant
