Question Replacement for the Scoob....

As it's going to be time for a change soon, I'm starting to look around.
Got an MY99 saloon atm (Turbo) - been really happy with it, and it's my 2nd Scoob.

I hate to say it, but the last Impreza I liked the look of was the MY03 WRX.
Looking at WRX rather than STI, as I now need a hatch (big labrador that insists on spreading out!! )

The newer "japs eye" one, I hate with a passion. I tried to reserve judgement, but looking at one at Autosport yesterday, it's only confirmed my fears: being that with the abomination of the potential new Impreza (hatchbay thingy), my love affair with the Impreza could well be coming to an end

So my options?

Legacy B4 gtb
Impreza WRX wagon (MY03/04)
Forester STI (?)
*Audi S4 Avant
*Audi RS4 Avant - why is this the same price as the S4?
Mondeo ST estate

I've only got a few criteria -

1. Estate
2. gotta be as quick as my modded Scoob

money-wise.......hmmmm.

I have been looking at the Audi's (if you're going to spend money, spend it on something worthwhile!), however, price difference between the S4 & RS4 Avant is minimal. I can't work it out when the RS is a much better car.

I'd be really looking at the S4, as (a) I figure it may be cheaper to run & (b) the looks are a bit more subtle.

Any comments or other suggestions?

Dan

Surprised you only think price difference between s4 and rs4 is minimal. All the ones ive seen have a massive difference for cars of similar age / mileage. I think youd struggle to get a mondeo up to modded scoob pace. To get modded scoob pace just get a newer modded scoob. If you want a change then the s4's are nice and you can get mint V or W platers for about 10k with about 65k miles. There were a few on autotrader and croft motors website is good as they have a few. Servicing might become expensive on high mileage s4's and a few folk have said you can sometimes have problems with the turbos. All in all it depends on your budget.

got the audi prices from the Audi website - certainly nothing anywhere near 10K!!!

TBH, got a budget around £16K ish...... (hence the let-down at Audi's prices)

The choices may look a bit varied - I just chucked a load of things into the melting pot

Can you manage to get an old twin-turbo RS4 avant for that money? Corrrrrr... I think they're still above that though.

Try autotrader there were about 5 s4's for less than 10k last time i checked. It was a few months since i checked though. As i said try croft motors website they are dearer but still well in your budget.

I've a notion RS4s are a fair bit dearer on the parts/service front - could be a factor in residuals.

Nissan Stagea? Skyline estate... a bit more rare than a hen's tooth to be fair, but interesting!

S4 is looking quite appealing - just trying to find out where the catch is.

Lot of car for the money - even the cheaper models.

My guess is that the high mileage would be a big problem - hypothetically, I'd run it for 3 yrs (so a circa 50K miles car would end up with around 80K)
Deffing the RS4 as it looks like a money pit (even compared to a Scoob!! )
Trying ot get onto the Audi-sport.net forum, but it's proving rather difficult - either they're very budy or their vetting takes a long time!!!

Hadn't thought of the Skoda Will have to check it out. Have seen teh Skyline thing - awful-looking!!

Any other recommendations?
