Astra Mk4 Sri Turbo
My brother-in-law has bought one of these and has a couple of questions regarding it.
1. Should he be doing the same as me with my scoob, ie sitting in the car with the engine running to let things cool down properly ? With it having a different type of turbo can he just switch it off. He's been letting cool down but he is just interested in knowing more about it.
2. He's wants to get some more horses out of it. Anyone on here got/had any experience with tuning/modding this car ? ie places to go for ecu's and other bits.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

I agree with the "cooling down" procedure, used to have a MK4 GSI Astra - same as the sri turbo mechanically.
Courtenay are one of the best tuners, also worth looking at Milltek for exhausts, replacement down pipes, re-maps etc. Milltek do a full flow sports cat down pipe that has only one CAT and does away with the small pre-cat which increases the bhp and responsivness of the car.
Loads of advice on the following forum: http://astra-sri.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9
Always worth asking these guys of quick / effective mods, very helpful & friendly bunch.

He certainly should be letting the car cool down before switching off. Generally about 1 min or so is usually all it takes but if you have been pushing the car alot or have been on a long journey 2 or even 3 mins never hurts.
In terms of modding he should be able to get a Stage 1 Remap and Cat back exhaust for less than £1000. That should provide him with anything up to about 235-240bhp\270-280lbs\ft Torque, which is a nice neat figure for the Mk4 SRI-T\GSI.
You will find that with that sort of a figure your friend is able to keep pace with Remapped WRX or a base STI once on the move. Obviously the Astra is no match for the Scooby of the lights but he still should be able to get the 0-60 down to roughly around 6 seconds.
