Default HELP with bmw.

hi guys maybe someone can assist me. my brothers car is playing up. wonder if you can help.

his 3 series will start and idle fine but when engaging gear it will select all gears but once releasing the clutch there is a grinding/rotating noise from under the car. the car wont move forward and the noise increases with revs. he claims an audiable clunk/bang and the car then didnt drive from there on in. driveshaft maybe?

Probably gearbox. Get on your knees and have a look underneath to be sure - if the drive shafts and prop are in one piece then there only 2 other things - diff and box, and diffs don't usually break like that.
