Do BMWs have false twin exhausts?
I've been behind a 3 series a couple of times with twin exhausts (small ones next to each other) and thought that the right hand one looked like it stopped before the silencer. Is this true or am I just seeing things?

"Engine vacuum operates a valve in the exhaust system that responds to engine speed and load. It varies a movable element located in the right-side resonator for a sporty exhaust note under hard acceleration or when downshifting enthusiastically."

Well, you learn something new every day.
I bet those exhausts are expensive to replace. Although by the time it's due it'll be replaced with a cheap DTM style jobbie!

My E36 328 coupe was like this. I put the car on the lift once and saw that it had dual pipes running the whole length of the car.... I think my comment went something like "oh cr@p that looks expensive" !!!
Great sounding motor mind...

Should see the exhaust setup on the 840. Separate system for each bank, one on each side of the car exiting with a twin pipe on each rear silencer. 3 silencers, 2 cats, 4 lambda sensors
Think the setup on the E39 M5 is much the same.
