Golf Tdi for £7,500
G/F wants new (to her) car and has decided between an Golf or an Audi A3.
Sensibly, I think it's best to go for the Golf as there's a lot more on the market so will get a better car for the money, plenty to choose from etc.
Requirements are:
TDi - prob 115bhp (or 130bhp) although performance isn't that important to her as long as it's got 'some' go.
Black or dark grey/anthracite.
2001 on
to keep for 5 years
I'm guessing she can get a pretty good one for the money? Is there any 'spec' model that's desirable (climate, leccy everything etc.)? I see on many models, the 'display' between the dials is often only half used. When does the other half get used? for cars with trip comp??
Please don't suggest 'other' cars as she's decided on golf/a3

You should get an 02 for that, but you will have to look hard to find a fully spec'd one. I think the basic 130 was around £16500 new, and my mate had a mk4 130 new on a 51 with every option and spent about £22000 - and to find one like that is rare !
The best bet is to keep looking for the right car and maybe have a chat with these peeps http://www.uk-mkivs.net/
A bora will be cheaper and easily as good a car.

I have A Bora, doesn't handle as well as a mk4 TDI golf I used to drive, seems more unstable and wollowy. They are cheaper to buy and insure however, I have a 2001 TDI 115 BHP, its the SE so I get the trip computer, climate, lumbar support adjutment ect, paid £5900 a year ago ( come down since, as per bloody usual )
PM me for any other info
Does 50 MPG on the M'way, 45 in town

I just bought my girlfriend a nice fully spec'd mk4 130 GT TDi on a 03 for 8,500, mileage is a little bit high (68,000) but its a VW oil burner and will easily see the high 200,000's.
Its absolutely immaculate, GTi interior etc - I might even get a revo remap once the warranty runs out lol.

Not wanting to divert the thread - but is there a reason why you want the VW MKIV over the equivalent Leon. They were cheaper new, have the same powerplant have the A3 interior and handle a lot better than the golf. You should be able to pick up a cracking example for that sort of budget.
I have a 2001 (90BHP TDI) with 110,000 on it which I have owned from new - it was definately the right choice over the equivalent golf, and better spec'd, but I knew I would be keeping the car for as long as it ran - so residuals were not an issue for me. The Seat network I found to have a much better approach to after-care than VW.
But I know what girlfriends are like - I want a golf and i want it in black. My other half bought her MKIV a fortnight before my leon.
