Rover 75...your views?
Trying to persuade my dad to get rid of his 11 year old mondeo and buy a newish car, possibly about 12 month old.
What's everyones views on the Rover 75 and especially the facelift model with the cdti engine?
Just been looking on the british car auction website and there's lots going through, especially in Nottingham.
Also, is there any deals left to be had anywhere???
thanks

My brother has a 2001 2.0 V6 petrol 75 he's owned since February and he loves it. It's not the most frugal car but does everything well. I'm assuming if your going for the CDTI then it'll be a whole lot cheaper to run!
It's got some wood trim in the cabin which isn't to my taste, but they seem good cars and should be going for decent money.
Can't tell you any more than that!
Cheers

Yes the engine will be there long after the car.
Or the AA will be called for Electrical problems and not engine problems
I think another Mondeo would be a better buy than a manufacture that went bankrupt and has been dogged by problems for years.

The 75 always did pretty well in the JD power type surveys. I ran a 2.5V6 Auto for a couple of years and absolutely nothing went wrong with it. The build quality and solidty feels way above other models in the MGR range.
If your Dad want's a nice comfortable car the 75 is an excellent choice. With the £1000's he'll save buy a good 3 year warranty.
Cheers

Rover 75 is probably the worst car I've ever driven mate.
I spent a weekend with a nearly new 2.0 V6 and hated every single
thing about the car.
You can get a far better motor for the money (i.e vw passat?)
Each to their own though............

thanks for the replies everyone
was considering the Rover 75 because they did appear to get good write-ups on the parkers site by lots of owners and was hoping to get one a little cheaper after Rover closing....
There really is too much choice these days when looking for a car,

I'm not quite sure why they'll be worth F*ck All so soon - Still the same as any other car, and you'll still be able to get parts for 'em, so the depreciation shouldn't be any worse I'd have thought.
Anway, unless you buy something ridiculous, it'll be worth nothing within a few years either way, so may as well get used to it
Get the Rover 820 Turbo if he really wants one. My mate has one, and it goes like stink. Nice Recaro seats as well, and they're fairly cheap as well

the 75 is a multi award winning car and they are very good in all areas ,,ignore the poo folks post ,go and drive one for yourself.
The values of these have stabilized now too from what ive seen so if you buy wisely you wont lose any more money than folks with different marques.

I had a 75 as a hire car to do a 250mile round trip to London the other day. I'm only 31 aand immediately thought "o my god what the hell" BUT .....................I actually really enjoyed the drive. It was the diesel version, fully loaded to the hilt. I gotta go to Manchester for a couple of days the end of next week and am really kinda hoping I get the 75 back for the journey. In my opinion it performed well in ALL areas, V comfortable, quick, quiet and (dare I say) a bit of a sleeper.
Thats just my opinion for what it's worth. A dealer round here, (Norfolk) is knocking out brand new 75's for £15k off the list price until the w/e !!!! 1 hell of a bargain if you ask me.
Again jusy my opinion.
