Question New car for £18000

What "NEW" car would you have if given a budget of £18,000?
Anybody know of any webpages that list a range of vehicles for any given budget?

Depends what your after in a car, but the Focus ST hasn't had a bad review from any magazine/TV Program and is a lot of car for the money, its also a a drivers car too with decent feedback and inputs, not like the VXR for example. It looks and feels special, and would cover ground very quickly looking at how low the torque comes in, how well balanced they say the handling is, and its grip. Its also got a quality ride, and the engine is already well known in the Volvo world for tuning if you want to go down that route in 3 years time, but probably isn't needed. A great overall package for £17500 (a bit more with options i.e ST2 or ST3). I sat in an Orange one at MPH05 and was well impressed with the inside and seats too. Makes competitors look over priced now.

Not sure on the new shape Leon, won't be that special, and it will be everywhere soon.

Guys,

I may actually take a different job very soon. As part of the package I will get a company car. It's early days yet as we haven't negotiated anything final and I'm only guessing on the £18k budget - but it won't be far off. I've looked at the cars in the carpark that other employees have with similar roles. Golf TDi, Passat TDi, Focus, Mondeo, Leon etc.
I'm not yet sure what the contraints would be but I've always had a soft spot for Civic Type Rs.
The only thing I do know is that I have no choice in colour! Policy only allows for silver. Wierd. Most cars in our car park look a bit boring in that colour IMO.
I'll let you know more if/when I find out. In the mean time, keep the ideas coming.

Cheers

Nick

I was in a similar situation in Jan and looked at some similar motors plus CooperS/Leon Cupra R (18k ish). Went for a CTR in the end which is a riot. It is true what they say tho, you do have to cane it to really go, its noisy *all* the time and the suspension is rock hard. And you get some chavscum owners. Driving to Scotland on the motorway getting tinnitus I start to wish I had a 3 series again but get on the right road and it all makes up for it.

Oh and it's cheap as chips and reliable.

I ran a CTR as my company car for 18 months. Did 45k miles in that time and only had 1 problem when a sensor failed, took the dealer 1/2 day to fix it and was back on the road. Production of the CTR is to stop very soon so I would expect some good deals out there?

Watch the tax if you are going for anything with high output engines, the CO2 figures can be a big difference. The CTR was quite good for the power.
