Question American pick-ups-experiences??

Anyone out there ever owned one of the American pick-ups? Was thinking along the lines of Dodge Dakota, ram, Ford F150 etc. Have heard there not alot worse on fuel than the Mitsubushi L200s and the like and given the choice , would rather have an American truck instead as L200s , hi-luxs etc are too common and a bit "bum-boy" compared to a V8 yank pick-up! Its not for posing-would be used alot for landscaping / gardening work so how reliable are they, servicing costs etc? Would appreciate comments from anyone whos owned/has one. Cheers. Matt

My dad has been working on quite a few american pic-ups latley , rhd conversions and what not.

One problem with alot of them is that they are rear wheel drive not 4x4 which i think is a bit crap.

Reliability is quite good actually on all american pic-ups and parts are cheap as chips.

Well my old fella has owned a Chevy Silverado for 12 year now, not sure about the new ones but it is a 5.7 V8 and RWD, and by christ can it drink fuel i'm talking 12mpg if your lucky and 18-20 on a run, very reliable though and 100k between services. Crap accelaration though bevause they weigh 2.5 tons and handleling is terrible but the 5.7 Chevy block is extremely tunable.

Saw a Dodge SRT-10 at Crail today..... Viper engined!!

Sounded absolutely amazing and was about twice the size of every other car there even dwarfed an L200 Animal that was parked up near it.

Cheers,
Grant

What about a GMC Cyclone? I think they're 4wd and seriously quick off the lights - only a V6 though (4.3 litre?).

My friend has got a chevy avalanche, 8.1 with a full racing exhaust. It can fairly move even with being 3 tons. They are very reliable and but drink fuel like nothing else.

Dunno about pickups but I rented a Toyota 4Runner in the US for 3 days. I was more scared driving that at 60mph than I was driving my scoob at over double. They don't have springs, just waterbeds.
