Default Fiesta RS Turbo

Hi there, a mate of a mate of a mate is selling his fiesta rs turbo and i am thinking of buying it as its cheap, thought it might be a nice daily runner.

Just wondering if any of you guys know much about them as i would be glad of any feedback.

Do they break every week?

I had one from nearly new, and it was a pig of a car. Looked great, Loved the seats. But was forever breaking down.

Maybe I was unlucky ??

My wife had a 1991 Mercury Grey one. Absoluetly fabulous fun, put in a 195 chip (expensive as it needs 4 injectors), a Koni kit and go and have fun. It never broke down in 3 years, and we owned it from 5 years old to 8 years old. My mate had an early one with ECU problems though.

I've had one too, and 6 Escort RS Turbos...!!! I love them. The CVH is a really good engine. If it's had oil changed regularly there shouldn't be any probs with it. Is it standard? A chip change will see 165bhp happily with an exhaust and filter and then it's a v quick car that's still reliable. It all depends on milage and servicing really but it's a ford fiesta at the end of the day and the parts are v cheap therefore unlike a Scooby! This was my standars one that never let me down at all! I loved it but it was a little small. Still miss FWD torque steer every now and then...!

I owned one over 10 years ago and had it for 3 years. Great little car that never once let me down but even the most recent ones would be over 12 years old and I would imagine that rust could be a major factor with these cars now and not just on the bodywork.

Did any of you guys ever have abs on your fiesta rs turbos??

With a nice brake upgrade is it possible to make the car actually stop.(non abs frst)

You will find more info on this car on the rsownersclub website mate, someone may even be able to send you a buying guide, i owned two RS1800 fiestas until recently, as much fun as the turbo but with the zetec engine so no potentially expensive worries.
The turbo is like any other car though really, if looked after and kept near on standard etc, etc

The main thing what really concerns me about these cars is the crash saftey factor, any one think they are death traps?

I'd rather be in one of them than a mini or older european cars.

I had an Escort with the mechanical ABS, probably best to avoid it.
As for the brakes, if you use at least 15" rims (14" are standard), you can use Series 2 turbo discs and I have Tarox 4 pots that I'll sell for £100 that'll make these a whole lot better.

Recently sold my Fiesta rst, mine was a 1990, only rust i had to have sorted was the fuel filler cap, as they all rust here.

It had the 2.1zvh engine in with the fiesta frenzy motorsport (Area Six) custom chip, injector and map sensor package and it was kicking out 285bhp @ 21psi.
It was a great car to drive as in the fun factor as i t flew past alot of bigger carrfs including the scoob i now own, BUT was one thing after another with it which is why i got rid.
A modded one with a solid block, biege injectors, 195 chip and cossie pump should see 200 bhp easily enough.
A clean standard one is the way to go for a daily runner otherwise u will prob be under it more than in it like i was lol, but then i did drive it hard alot of the time as that was what it was made that way for.

Pop on to www.fiestaturbo.com and they will give u all the advice u need.

HTH
S...

P.s. Cossie front calipers and disks fit straight on with a 5mm spacer between the caliper and hub to space it out and work a treat..

no abs on my old car brakes were ok i had 15inch wheels on mine, then fitted a 280mm big disc kit, awesome after that. look for rust round the fuel cap, common rust spot on mk 3's.
