XC90
Anybody had a go, stopped for fuel today and it was a Volvo garage, the wife made a bee line into the showroom and got all touchy feely with the XC90, grabbed a brochure and got back in the car looking flushed. She was offered an extended test drive at an event on Anglessey (the dealer was in the longest named place in the UK) which just happened to be over the road from a relatives house so she was considering going and having a go in one (not sure whats up with the local dealers)
I am fairly certain she wouldnt part with the cash but just in case, anyone had a go in/of one, it would be a diesel model.

Hmm, have heard this before, something about, 5,4,3,2,1 GO when pulling out of junctions, probably just a flash in the pan and sense will prevail but I am interested in opinions, she currenly has a Sharan diesel so I would imagine it would be similarly lethargic, well the VW is ok around town but stuggles a bit when laden and at speed, but dont get the idea it needs more power, 115 bhp is plenty for something that ponderous !

Run a diesel XC70 which I trouble to fault. Just coming up to 45K miles after just over a year & it has been 100% reliable & totally comfortable. I can't imagine the XC90 is much worse in acceleration than the XC70 equivalent but I run the 6sp manual which is a tad faster than the more common auto. The Euro IV engine is 185bhp/400nm which means 10.5 secs -60 & 120 mph. That is the same as my Euro III XC70 & what I find is that although the 0-60 is cr@p, the mid-range/roll-on is impressive & makes the car surprisingly agile.

Lady at work just had hers delivered today - white, of all colours! Funny that we didn't know whose it was but my colleague predicted "must be a woman, needs to feel secure."

my dad drives one and loves it, the interior is classy really soft leather and plush. very preactical car, and the 11 speaker dolby digital surround sound in a car will scare the hell out of you . We were towing on the beach it seemed to be the only 4x4 capable of the dry sandy sand if you know what i mean? even a discovery got stuck, so its off roading ability should not be discredited

A work mate has one of these and reckons it was good value new and is comfortable.
Very ugly looking things IMO however - looks too tall and thin, and reminds me of the old Ford Maverick (wouldnt surprise me if there were similarities seeing as Volvo is Ford now). I'd imagine theyre a fair bit cheaper than something liek a Discovery however.

We had a long term test drive of one this week. It was a 163bhp 5-speed geartronic version, and it did feel very sluggish. Interior was very nice and comfortable and it did reasonable mpg for a car of its size. The 185bhp version with the 6-speed geartronic box is supposed to be better all round.

can take it to 200bhp through an ECU remap..they had 3 in there on Thursday for remaps.
