£2.5k to Spend.... Suggestions.
Well it looks like the Scoob is off on its merry way to another home!!! (girlfriends and houses both cost too much)
So until my finances settle again after the move I need something to get about in.
It needs to be reliable and with a decent sized engine....
I really am clueless as to what to start looking for and the scoob might be going tomorrow so I really need some ideas fast!! Im going to have to have it for about a year i reckon....
Budget is up to 2.5k.... Any suggestions?

VW Bora.... hmmm maybe.. I agree that there is little point getting anything sporty .... Its just not going to cut it after the Impreza so what's the point. (although I dont think I could live with a 1.0 so something with a bit of pace would be nice..)

1997 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 1.9 CL TDI 5dr Diesel Hatchback,
53,000 miles, . Red, 1 years MOT, tax, excellent condition, e/windows & sunroof, central locking & radio. £2,500. ONO.
That won't depreciate much over a year, cheap to run whilst your saving and will have enough poke for the motorway

I wouldnt get a diesel unless you do high mileage, not cost effective. Much more cost effective with an economical petrol engine. Diesel is more expensive to buy remember!

When I found myself in the same situation I bought a Pug 406 V6 saloon. You can get fairly good examples for £2500 and if you get the manual they are rapid on the move (60-140 it will lose nothing to standard UK classics!). However, I should point out I blew my first one up but then I did give it a real hard time and it did let go at crail at max revs at 90mph! I got another and.....that went too The problem here was the cambelt and I strongly expect the guy I bought it from (ebay) lied about the cambelt change. So whilst they seem unreliable I'd have another as I believe this was caused by human influence than the car itself. The best all round car I've owned with the exception of my current S2000.
You can get them looked after cheap(er) at your backstreet, have no qualms about fitting shan tyres and with the cruise can get over 30mpg but 27mpg being normal for some fairly hard driving. Pulls clean and quite hard from 1500rpm in ANY gear so they are great for limping around in

A friend just got hold of an N-Plate BMW 323 Coupe Sport for 3k, 100k miles, Full History, Leather, Aircon etc... Lots of car for the money.
What about an Audi Coupe V6, either FWD or Quattro, bombproof build, reasonable image and decent design.
Cheers,
Grant

I appreciate the comments... I have actually been thinking about going in a completely different direction since I have been chatting to a few of the boys at the pub tonight....
I am considering looking at getting an early Landrover Discovery and doing some offroad for a bit of fun...
I live near Ranmore so there are a few places I can go for some serious offroad shenanigans..... Might be the interlude I need..... And it will still get me to work on the couple of times a week i need to...
