Renault 5 Turbo 2 Help if possible ?
Questions - Guy at work (real Renault nut) has just got a turbo 2 to do up and trackday, although it has Mot and he's driven it in to work today.
Looking in the back at the engine, two questions spring to mind. 1 - what is the control coming out of the intercooler - looks like a boost controller of some sort, but not sure about the position. 2 - has some sort of controller down on inside of n/side rear pillar, near boost controller ? above, this looks like a retardation adjuster of some sort. Would this be for ignition only, or help with turbo lag. This thing is bloody awesome by the way, and pops and bangs up and down the gears like a real rally monster - looking forward to a ride at lunchtime.
Cheers,
Mart

Those things are insane, but a real handfull apparently!
Ive read that Turbo 2's with increased boost virtually pulled a wheelie off the line (obviously not ideal!), and also they can be a real handfull on the limit - can swap ends very quickly if youre not careful.
Proper enthusiasts car that tho

Ill have a word with my mate. He has a very rare Maxi 5 Turbo and as you said pretty rough at low revs but when its singing and swinging like a pendulum they are brilliant.
I would say though they are too good to track as they are getting rarer by the minute especially if he is going to 'do it up' as you say!

No I wouldnt put it in a garage but as I have done with my E30 M3 having spent best part of 5k on it, I drive it very often but am gentle with it most of the time but then use it properly when I feel like it.

to be fair guys Im unsure, Im more of the GT Turbo nut than the turbo2. Love the cars and always dreamed of having one but my knowledge is very limited on these, sorry. Id know the right people to ask etc though, RTOC is the best place to be if you own one of these though

I used to own one of these baby's a while back and from what I can remember the thing on the I/C is a bypass device controlled by the temp of the pressurised air from the turbo.
It works on the principal that if the air going into the I/C is below the threshold temp the air is ducted straight to the engine without going through the I/C, where as if the air is above the threshold temp it will let the air through the I/C as normal to get the cooling effect you would expect.
I'm not sure what the threshold temp is but 95 C rings a distant memory bell. (It usually only works in winter when it is sufficiently cold enough)
This is assuming that the intercooler is the standard renault one.
I don't know what the other thing is sorry
Hope this helps
