Default New car decisions

Thinking of finally replacing my 6 year old UK Turbo wagon, and have the following candidates in mind. Budget is about £28k (subject to wifely confirmation), so obviously these are all 2nd-hand options.
Opinions please!

M3 all the way - had a day in one at Rockingham, what a machine although that said I would wait till the new version came out and see if it has any effect on current model residuals.

Drove a friends e46 M3 convertible recently and was very impressed great engine, build quility and the ride isn't to bad even on the 19" rims although i wasn't to keen on the pimp my ride red interior and IMO the drive would be better with the std 18" wheels.

But it's still not as fast as my old scoob

Blimey, you have a Boxster S, a 330i, and a Forester STi. Can you get any wider range?

You forgot R34 Skyline and Audi RS4 Avant, BTW

I like the Scoob because it has some character. Out of all the choices, I think the 330i has the least of that, but it's still a very nice car. And you can pick up a pretty decent one for a lot less than some of the other contenders!

Character's a funny thing. It's always something you admire in cars other people own.

MY06 Spec C

Sub 8-seconds at the Ring makes it quicker than all of the cars listed. It is also more pliant and a great everyday car. They are not even that noisy nowadays.

Out of the list above, I would go for the M5.. absolutely amazing machine, IMO.

I would also be tempted by a brand new Spec C if you could live with the slightly and harsher ride and questionable image.

Cheers,
Grant

PS I am selling a 911 993 Carrera for £25k if you are interested - great car, just a little slow for my taste
