lost cam timing on 1.8 k series, how to reset?
hi folks
i've got vernier pulleys fitted and after taking the head off and putting it back on (head gasket failure, shock!) i now need to reset my timing.
with the original pulleys you just set the marks to align with each other (engine @ 90BTDC) and hey presto.
so, i've set the crank at TDC (for 1 and 4) but how do i go about setting the cams to an initial setting before using the TDC method to adjust the verniers?
cheers

I used offset dowels on my racing Twincam and it was the best method by far for that engine.
With the BDA engine I removed the keys and lapped the camwheels to the taper on the cams so I could put the timing where I wanted it. Never any sign of the cam timing slipping. That method was used by a few engine buiders.
