'95 Primera Problem...
...got given a '95 2.0 SLX Primera today.
Friend handed me the keys and told me that if I could get it started, it was mine... along with a 93 Escort 5dr.
Escort started, runs sweet as now, the beautiful sound of the tappy 1.4 CVH was pretty special.
The Primera has got a problem, here are the symptoms:
- When trying to jump, the car will turn and turn without kicking into life.. He is reasonably sure that its the immobiliser which has tripped on.
- Its not like its picking up and trying to sound, its a monotone starter noise.
Does anyone know a way to bypass the standard Immobiliser on them, via a fuse or shut off switch under the bonnet or anything?!
I'm pretty sure that the problem lies in the Remote for the Alarm/Immobiliser as when connected to another car the central locking works by key, but the remote doesnt work, so the immobiliser isnt de-activating...
Just need advice and help, car was going to be a perfect to chuck the dog in for trips to the beach/forests in the winter.
Cheers,
Grant

If the remote is a factory Nissan one (as oposed to an aftermarket alarm remote) it probably does't have anything to do with the immobiliser system - OE immobilisers are more often switched by a small electronic chip located in the ignition key housing itself (rather than the remote) and an aerial around the ignition barrel.
The best way to check if this is the case (if you can't split the key) is to drop the steering cowls and look for any elec-trickery around the ignition barrel.
Not a great help I know, but could be an area worth exploring......

As above, have a look in the centre of the dash near the windscreen. There should be a flashing LED. A click of the imobiliser remote and this should go out, the car will then start. If that's of no use try www.nissanprimera.net, they should be able to help...
