Bringing a Boxster back from Germany

Bringing a Boxster back from Germany
A friend of mine who has been living in Germany for 12 months bought a Boxster in Germany about 10 months ago and is now coming back to live in the UK with the car.
Does anyone know the implications of bringing the car back to the UK as far as Import taxes and registration etc are concerned ??
Is it correct that if you have owned the car for 6 or more months then you do not have to pay import duty ?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
If the car is over 6 months old, then there are no futher taxes to be paid, just the registration fee, road tax and MoT (if needed). Conversion work may need to be done (headlights etc.) but as long as you have the Certificate of Conformity it makes life easier.
Drop me a PM if you'd like me to pass on details of someone i know who specialises in registering LHD cars in the UK.
Regards,
Chris

Not that this matters as its Germany, as AFAIK if bought in a EEU state you have already paid taxes on the purchase in that country and will not pay more when brought into another EEU state. If outside the EEU then the 6month rule applies.

No a 6 month rule still applies, just in a different format.
If the car is under 6 months old when purchased in another EU state, then you can buy it VAT free in that country then pay UK VAT when it is registered here.
Over 6 months old, you don't buy it VAT free and don't pay any UK VAT.
