Question BMW X5 Owners - You Views On The Car Please

Can I ask if there are any X5 owners here ?
What do you think of your car?
Thinking of getting the facelift model (Diesel) In the standard Black and Black
Is there anything to be careful of ?

Had a facelift diesel for 12 months which I replaced with a 4.8is in March this year. Excellent family car, with a good turn of speed (even the diesel) and superb handling for its size. Great build quality...but 'so. so' image....although you will appreciate that I do not care having the 'blinged' version!
If you have any specific questions let me know.

There the dogs knackers in 4x4 my dad has had one for over 2-years and has a new one coming next month Estoril Blue(diesel)

The quality is next to none and with NO reliability problems.

He had a 3 discovery`s before that and even the new ones felt like transit van compared to the Bmw X5 you wont go wrong mate trust me.

I must admit that if I had the $£$ I'd have a 4.8i in Estoril Blue or a Range Rover if I had any choice

I have a 54 plate 3.0D sport. Very nice car although economy is only around 22 if you do a lot of stop start in town. 220 BHP and 500 nm certainly make it a nippy brick

Option must haves are :

Leather
Auto
Comms pack (for resale especially)
Xenons

and the others are more for choice. My car has in addition to the above

Sunroof
Adaptive headlights (very nice on country lanes)
Voice control
Runners
Auto dim side mirrors
HIFI sound (incredible sound)
6 disc CD
Comfort seats
Front seat heating

The car in all has £10k of extras which is why a bought a 9 month old one rather than new.

I second that,

X5's must have leather & comms as otherwise comes resale they are worth significantly less. Also, go for Auto, 95% are auto, but don't even think about manual (only available on 3.0i or 3.0D).

In terms of realiability, they are good, but they do have their gremlins. Get a BMW warranty if buying over 3 years or don't worry if less than 3 years. BMW are very good at paying out on warranty claims for X5's.

In terms of driving and owning one. Still amazes me how fast you can drive one of these around the lanes and how it puts a smile on your face.

Wouldn't think twice about buying another one.

Echo all of the above. A superb car in all forms, and a monster in mine in particular (360bhp V8, to 60 in 5.9 secs per BMW - gotta be a good laugh in a car of this size). Car was quite expensive (£60,000 after discount) but I enjoy it much more than previous Imprezas, M3s and M5s. The 4.8 handles much better than other X5s (which are very good in their own right) I think due to the wider (and lower profile) tyres and adaptive, air assisted suspension all round. Very flat in the corners and excellent steering feel mean that you can carry very high speeds thru corners. A real hoot!

What size wheels and tyres are you running and what suspension because they told my dad that the ride is alot harder than standard (diesel)with bigger wheels.

4.8 has 20in alloys with standard fit typres (cannot remember sizes - something like 275/40 front and 315/35 back - so quite wide and low). As I say, it also has air suspension front and back unlike any other model in the range. It is better riding that my previous diesel Sport, but the Sports are renowned for a more 'jiggly ride' - but I am sure this is an acceptable trade off for the superior handling when compared with say a RR.

the thing u gotta remember is that its an option to have indicators which most bmw drivers dont get... might be worth considering...

sorry... i know its not constructive but had to be said.

I suppose its similar to the Impreza option of "remove brain and drive like a loon around town" or "drive as close to the car in front and perform dangerous overtaking whenever possible

obviously I don't wish to stereotype.

My father's got a 3.0i. Its a nice motor with a good spec and IMHO the best interior on any current BMW. Its also much better than old discos and old range rovers I've driven.

Having said that its not a patch on my A8 in terms of ride quality, or overall refinement. Its also got a footballers wives image.

Personally I'd go for the full fat Range Rover or wait for the new Audi SUV
