Default Thinking of buying a pulsar

Hi all, ive just sold my dissapointing nissan 200 sx s13 and want to replace it with a pulsar. With many priced between 2-3.5k im sure theres one out there for me, what should i look out for? do i buy standard or modded? What can i expect (big fuel bills etc..)?

thanks in advance

buying one at that price you will most certainly get a well abused dog. fair enough you can pick them up cheap - but you WILL need to spend a fortune on it. best bet is to get at least 4 grand and buy one off the gtiroc, with a few mods, clutch etc. they cost a lot to run and maintain

Good call by STI Monster, get onthe Owners club website as there are plenty of clues to reliability, running costs etc and its the place you are more than likely to find a good example. I had one for two years, no problems at all and generally was better on fuel than the Impreza is now. I used Simon Norris of Norris Designs fame to service the car and resisted all attemtps to modify it, combined with my 'Driving Miss Daisy' style my experience may not reflect the actual fragility of the car. Just remember the youngest car will be over 10 years old and is unlikely to have been driven 'sympathetically' - could be a can of worms

hehe need to do a lot of research - as mentioned www.gtiroc.com is a good place to start. most notable feature of the pulsar is the tendency for clutches to slip with anything over standard power, then when you do get one that doesn't, it'll strip the gears instead.

great little cars tho

I had a gtir for over 2 years and it was the most trouble free car I ever owned. Infact when I bought a wrx to replace it I kept it in my garage for over 6 months because I didn't want to sell it. Wish I'd kept the gtir instead of the wrx now. That particular gtir was my favourite of all the cars I've owned.
