Seat Leon cupra? Amybody raced one?
Got on a slip road onto a dual cariageway today and noticed an enthusiastically driven Leon Cupra (53 plate) behind me. Put my foot down, was in 2nd gear at about 30mph and accelerated hard to about 80mph in 4th. The cupra stayed with me the whole way!
What sort of performance do those things have?
FYI I drive a MY2000 UK Turbo (Standard except D/V)

The Cupra R is the fast one, the Cupra isn't quite as good! I test drove one when i was last changing cars, and it was faster than my classic turbo in everyway - except it couldn't quite get the power down coming off islands etc (even with TCS on).

I spent 2 hours Saturday afternoon driving a Cupra R round Mallory park with an instructor sat next to me. I have to say I was proper impressed. Managed to use a whole tank of fuel, say 80/90 miles worth? So I guess in that period I clocked up 60/70 laps. The last session was 50 mins non stop and the car lapped it up. No brake fade, no overheating tyres, just kept performing. There is no way on gods earth my scoob would have coped with that.

Came up behind one on a road I knew well in the STi, the day it had had the PPP fitted so it was not running to it's full potential.
Young lad inside took off like a scolded cat really trying, I kept up with him no probs but had no oppertunity to overtake, manly due to the fact it was unsafe which didn't stop the lad nearly totaling the Cupra r on a car just about to pullout of a side road.
Oh to be young and foolish.

I just bought a Cupra R for the missis 3 days ago. 03 plate with 18k miles.
Drives bloody nice, and is very very smooth through the gears. It's very quick, but certainly not ballistic like my STI.
Brakes are excellent, 6 speed box is silky smooth.
If I was in the market myself for a hot hatch, this would be the one.

Get rid of the D/V would be my advice.

I drove a cupra r for a quick 6 mile blast on a dual carridgeway with roundabouts every 2 miles late at night. was not that impressed. looses the pull in high revs and boost doesnt last long enough. seemed to struggle affter 3rd gear.
drove a std 05 wrx on same stretch a few weeks later and wrx felt a lot better

Yes you're right the car on the minor road would be at fault pulling out on a major road when traffic on the major road has priority. Highway code. That doesn't stop people doing it though. And BTW I was not tail gateing him, I was at a safe distance behind looking for oppertunity. I think a boy racer seeing a STi in his mirrors at any distance was enough to "egg him on" needless to say when he did see me he put his foot down.
And like I said in the previous post I let him go because it was not the time or the place to do any heroics.
As you well know when you first get PPP fitted the car is not immediately on "full power" because the ecu has to learn, it usually takes 200 to 300 miles for the engine to "sort it's self out". Well it has on both the STi's I've had anyway.

Cupra R would out last an STi on track. STi might be quicker and pull away but 20 mins later it would be sat in the armco with non existant brakes whereas the Cupra would just keep on going.

Hang on, I came up against one of these in my Non turbo and he couldnt lose me, he drove it like a ****.. I had to drop back a few times due to he being a tit, but he in no way lost me... and from the sound of his engine he was really trying...
If I had the turbo ... hang on.. I'm expecting a MASSIVE increase in power when I get my turbo.. sounds like I'm gonna be upset

Its got great equipment spec, i had one of the wheels from the boot and it weighed bugger all (yep it does have a proper alloy as the spare) apparently they are magnesium and made by OZ.
