Been offered a Cosworth for swap!
Hi all, im trying to sell my nissan 200sx s13 on an m plate for around £1800, a bloke local to me who always buys and sells cars wants my car and would like to swap for his 2wd cossie on an E plate but he wants £3000-3500.
So i would have to add cash to get his car, i didnt realise that they are so expensive, not sure what to do, i havnt spoken to him directly, he knows sum1 that i know and offered this deal... still a bit up in the air at them moment but will try and see him and the car.
Not sure if its wise buy a cossie as it is quite old, what do i look out for? i know the car is standard! Running cost??
dont know what to do!, its not the car i would really want perhaps i could sell it on after as my nissan might prove difficlut to sell????
what would u do?

To be honest to find a 2nd hand cossie of that age that has not been thrashed silly would be great but I doubt if this is the case check to see if it has FSH, other than that don't touch it with a barge pole.
Cheers

Theres no way im gunna buy anthing thats not right mechanically so i'll take caution... as for not being what i really want well it would keep me happy for a while and if the deal is right i probably do it!

E reg was a dodgy year for fords, they seemed more prone to rot, something to do with ford using some dodgy metal if i remember, it was a long time ago...
I had an E reg Series 2 RS Turbo about 6 years ago, it was a rotter then.

buying a cosworth is a minefield of nicked clocked and thrashed motors.
First off, get it HPI'd, even if it has one already.
Then go look at the car. look for crash damage (these things get the odd front ender) so check the seam in the engine bay where the wing ends and the bay starts. Any crinkled edged and its had a front end smack.
Check the mileage, if its too good to be true then it probably is. walk away if it has any fingerprints on the INSIDE of the speedo clocks.
He says its standard, but these are very rare these days, take the reg then post it up on passionford to see if its had any previous owners.
If it is in the slightest bit suspect in ANY way then walk away.
If not then go for it. a bad Cossie is a nightmare, a good cossie is a dream.

Fords rotting out was **** all to do with bad steel, it was more to do with lazy b*stard scousers leaving crate loads of unpainted shells & panels outside at Halewood for weeks on end
Personally if your happy with the mechanical & legal status of the car I'd go for the swap, a properly sorted Sierra isn't the ill handling beast that some on here would have you believe

Went and saw it today, it was in pretty good condition and had no rust.... The seller was moving house and didnt want to px my s13..... to be honest i dont really want another rwd car and want a 4x4 plus the cossie is alot older than my s13....

I think you'll find that only the Escort Cosworth was built in Germany.

Older? LOL. Of course its older. It's also better and will only increase in value where your motor (as good as it is) will drop in value.
I've just acquired a good 4x4 (cossie's poor cousin) for nowt but know it's worth cash.

BTW Escort Cossies weren't even built by Ford at all, they were built by Karmann, alongside Corrados & Golf Cabriolets
